Matty Yglesias is pouting that the Rep. Paul Ryan Tax Plan would mean “higher taxes for 90% of Americans” as if though that were a bad thing…

Considering that some 42% of Americans don’t pay any taxes as it is…and we’d all agree that every honest and decent human should carry their own weight…it’s a good thing to know that those 42% will start contributing to their own welfare.

Matty also pisses on the Ryan Tax Plan because it would (shudder) “lower government revenues.” Matty can’t even begin to comprehend that government spending is the problem — we should be focused on spending less of our money, not spending all of our money.

What Matty sees as bugs, are actually key features: everybody chips in, and we quit trying to make the wealthiest 5% carry and support the other 95% of Americans.

  1. He’s actually pointing out that while taxes are increased for 90% of Americans, the total amount of revenue to the federal government would be lowered under Ryan’s bill. The reason for this is because, while 90% of Americans get their taxes raised, the richest 10% get theirs lowered, and to such a great extent that it ends up reducing the net revenue. So while 90% of Americans pay more, the government will in fact receive less.

Think about it. Our country has a mounting deficit as it is. Reducing its overall tax revenue will only exacerbate the problem. Not to mention, GOP constituents condemn cuts to Medicare and Defense spending, which are also included in Ryan’s bill.

    • I fail to see where the flat tax would lower tax revenue. We would get rid of the IRS and all loopholes that are presently being used to not pay any taxes, would be eliminated. Everyone is screaming for the richest people in our Country to pay more, this would force them to pay more. We need to eliminate all Corporate write offs. This would include business lunches, Yachts, Airplanes and the many other loopholes now in the tax code.
We also need to stop giving Foreign Governments money that they use to kill our Military personnel. We don’t need to buy their friendship and it’s time we quit mollycoddling them!
