I just found out about this special benefit that was held today at Riverbend Park in Smithville to honor two of the small town’s fallen Soldiers and a Marine: PFC Tina Priest, SPC Joshua Farris, and Lance Cpl. Cody Stanley.
The money raised will go to a scholarship fund in their memory.
If I’d known about this earlier, I definitely would have attended, as I rode with the PGR to honor all three of these American heroes and each of them holds a very special place in my memories.
PFC Priest’s funeral was the very first PGR mission that I rode, and I still go visit Tina’s grave site every time I go to or through Smithville (about 45 miles east of Austin):
Organizers hope to give out the first scholarship this year at graduation.
“Smithville is just awesome,” said Watkins. “They come together in times of need. They come together in good times. They just come together all the time.”
