One of my friends posted this picture today on Facebook of a food vendor at the Texas Independence Day Festival in downtown Conroe, which is my hometown where I grew up and went to high school:

squirrel on a stick

Festival staple: Meat on a stick

Mmmmm…squirrel-on-a-stick is really making me homesick now…

Why, yes, I did grow up in the sticks. Why do you ask?

And those of us here in the sticks will welcome you back anytime!

The air is much clean here in the pine trees than it is there in the cedars. At least it is until the pine pollen come out and turns everything yellow!

  2. What on Earth is Andoville?

    • What on Earth is Andoville?

No2…I think it was suppose to be andouille, which is a type of cajun sausage.

East Texas bubbas are not known for their spelling!

      • Well, I grew up in East Texas, and I certainly know what andouille is, and the two types of boudain.
I thought maybe they had found some new species of fish or beast I had never heard of. It never occurred to me that they could misspell andouille. I mean…what would my filet gumbo say?

    • a spicy pork & beef sausage link
