Happy Father’s Day

Happy Pop’s Day to all you dads out there.

I’m not a dad, and my own split from my life before I had the opportunity to form even a single memory of him — so it’s just another Sunday for me

Though I would like to give a nod to my step-father, whom my dear mother married after I’d already left for college: Happy Father’s Day, Travis…we don’t get to pick our real fathers in life, but if we could, I’d choose you a thousand times over. Thank you for teaching me more about being a good man, an honest man, and a good husband, and a man of integrity than I could have ever learned on my own.

Anyway — my Father’s Day plans while I’m out here in San Diego includes:

Make the 10-mile drive over to La Jolla Cove and snorkel/swim with the sea lions and dolphins again (did this yesterday, and had a blast).

Sea lions sunning themselves on the rocks in La Jolla Cove

Sea lions sunning themselves on the rocks in La Jolla Cove...a few minutes after taking this pic, I was swimming around in the water with them.

Then, lunch above the rocky shoreline at Sushi on the Rocks in La Jolla. Afterward, I’ll find a place with a view and large HD televisions to watch Tiger make his run at the US Open Championship.

While I’d much rather spend this perfectly beautiful San Diego day (mid-70s with a cool Pacific breeze and not even a hint of humidity) with my lovely wife, this is not a bad way to have to spend it on my own.

  1. Oh, I beg to differ, Rob.
What about your wonderful dogs ?
You ARE too a dad !

    Happy Father’s Day !
    :-D

  2. La Jolla is beautiful. Years ago, I had a friend I would visit in Leucadia, a small town in Nothern San Diego County. There use to be these small rural communities along the rail line. I imagine now they are unaffordable. Anyway, we use to go to LaJolla and Delmar alot. Very beautiful.

  3. Robbie yesterday the 27th marked the 27th anniversary of my fathers death. I appreciate your comments about him being beloved and the one liners thing…. However it wasnt during two a days it was 19 Jun 83 and I had just graduated……. Just for clarification….

  4. Thanks for the Father’s Day wish, Robbie. However, mine was more a Father’s Day weekend. Had family come in from out of town Saturday, so we had a great weekend together.
As wonderful as kids are, grandbabies are THE BEST.
Had way too much fun with them, when I could get them out of the pool. Then they all took me out for a very nice dinner last night.
It is a blessing to be surrounded with a loving family and I am grateful for them.
I gave a son-in-law Glenn Beck’s new book, The Overton Window and he is eager to read it, though he suspects he will have to fight my daughter for it.

  5. I am a single parent so at work I was wished a Happy Mother Fathers day.

  6. I’m glad you got to spend time with your grandkids. Sounds like a hoot was had by all.

    • Thanks FFM, it was a hoot and a holler.
I need for the grandbabies to get a little older before I introduce them to the wonders of Caddo Lake.

  7. Caddo is one of my favorite places of all time.
