It takes a special kind of douchebag to hit a child with your car and then flee the scene:
Authorities are asking the public to help find a driver who allegedly hit a 14-year-old boy pushing his go-cart in south Houston and then drove away.
Officials said the boy was pushing his go-cart along the side of the street when he saw a car approaching on the road. He tried to get out of the way, but the car smashed into his go-cart, pushing it into his legs and injuring him.
The driver stopped, got out of his car and told the boy he would go get help. But the man never came back.
I can’t even imagine what kind of low life would just leave — though I’m guessing it’s for one of the following reasons:
- The driver is in this country illegally, and is afraid of being deported if they stick around and wait for the cops.
- The driver has warrants out for their arrest, and knows they’ll be heading to jail if they wait around for police.
- The driver is drunk and/or high.
- The driver is uninsured, and is more afraid of getting a ticket than they are about a kid being injured on the side of the road.
In each of the above instances, the driver has already showed a blatant disregard for obeying the law — I don’t know why it should surprise me that they’d be more concerned about saving their own necks than saving a kid they just ran down.
Interestingly enough, the Chron reports that the kid remembered the make/model and color of the car, but not the race of the man driving it…
Or at least the Chron refused (as is their policy when the criminal is not-white) to report his race — all while asking the public to help the police find the guy. You know, they could seriously reduce the pool of suspects if they’d let us know if he was black or Hispanic…

Shame on you, Robbie! How dare you suggest that the Chronicle publish information that might aid the public in identifying a criminal.
I doubt it’s option number one/ An illegal wouldn’t have bothered to stop the car and get out..he’d have just kept going.
The guy probably had a ‘vote for Obama’ sticker on his rear bumper.
