WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama says he can relate to the plight of Americans striving in the struggling economy to pay bills while saving for their kids’ education and retirement.
He says he and first lady Michelle Obama took a hit like everybody else when the economy nearly collapsed, telling ABC that a college fund for daughters Malia and Sasha has gone “up and down” with the stock market.
Obama says the first couple is “not that far removed from what most Americans are going through.”
Oh yeah — they feel my pain:
President and Mrs. Obama, joined the ranks of all Americans today by filing their 2008 income tax returns on time. In total, the first couple had a joint income of $2,736,107
And:
President Obama and First Lady released their 2009 federal and State of Illinois income tax returns on Thursday; they reported adjusted gross income of $ 5,505,409 out of $6,114,931 total income.
That’s just in the last two years. So, uh, yeah…cry me a river already about Obama not being too far removed from what most Americans are going through — he couldn’t possibly be any more far removed from what we’re going through, actually.
I wonder if The Won answered this question while on one of his weekly golf outings? During one of the weekly lavish White House parties? During one of their “what city shall we fly to next” date nights? During one of their monthly family vacations?
Next thing you know, we’ll have an infomercial with Sally Struthers and Capt Kangaroo, “For less than the price of a cup of coffee, you can sponsor an Obama child…”
I mean, they already live in government housing, and apparently Michelle Obama’s been forced to take on a second job to help make ends meet:

I don’t begrudge The Won one dime of his wealth. There’s nothing wrong with living the American dream. It’s just that he begrudges anyone and everyone else who has accomplished that dream also and is determined to penalize them heavily for it.

Unlike Mr. Obama, I can show you how I paid my own way through college: working full time as a bartender at the Bennigan’s Restaurant on Kirby @ Hwy 59 in Houston, supplemented by my Chapter 31 Vocational Rehabilitation program benefits for Disabled Veterans. Yeah, also unlike Mr. Obama I have also served in our country’s armed forces. Unlike Mr. Obama, I then proceeded to start at the bottom of a career as an intern, working my way up the ladder. All the while looking towards my future by carefully managing my savings and expenditures. Unlike Obama, I purchased my own home without making any shady and suspicious real estate deals.
Between my jobs as a Brick Mason’s apprentice, a merchant marine, a US Army Combat Medic, a waiter and bartender in the service industry, and a technical writer in the software/defense industry, I’ve put in more honest days labor already than Obama ever will. Hell, I’ve put in more honest days of labor this year than Obama has in his entire life.
I’ll make no excuses or apologies for what I have in life, as I’ve worked damned hard for it. Which is why I’m not exactly thrilled about the prospect of somebody like Obama wanting to take more and more of what I’ve earned in order redistribute it to those who haven’t.
One doesn’t empathize with hardworking Americans by sticking it to them every fucking chance he gets which is what the ass in the WH is doing.
