This story comes from Boeing’s web page.
“It’s incredible to think that people, the men and women of the Boeing Company, together with the partners around the world can build such a magnificent flying machine that is capable of lifting over 1 million pounds into the air,” says Capt. Stemer.
It is not only incredible to think it, but to watch, as well.
I’ve long been a fan of the 747. Though it is primarily a freighter plane now, it is still demonstrating that the late 1960′s engineering that this plane is based on makes it such a capable airplane.
Great job to all at Boeing!

That’s over 500 tons.
The thing Looked heavy taking off.
Imagine the “pucker” factor of the skipper.
They may never find that seat cover.
LOL. At least he will get lots of fiber.
It doesn’t quite work that way.
I’ll be taking a much smaller plane to D.C. tomorrow – heading to the Restoring Honor Rally. Camera is at the ready.
While I wish I could go, I’m very happy for you that you can.
Have a great trip and let us know about the event when you can.
I think the technology may even be older as the 747 is based on the 707 airframe. Yes, amazing and American.
