Reason 8,947 that I no longer support Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), and think that he no longer serves the people of Texas nor true Conservative values — rather he serves one thing and one thing only: keeping and growing power for him and his GOP buddies in the Senate.
He can no longer be trusted to do what is right, when he has shown time-and-again that he will always do what is best for himself and his Senate buddies.
As chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), Cornyn’s myopic loyalty to his Senate buddies has too often come at the expense of Conservative values and limited government.
First it was his blind support for RINO-turned-Democrat Sen. Arlen Specter (soon to be former Senator Specter), when Conservative voters were lined up overwhelmingly on the side of his opponent, Pat Toomey.
Then there was Sen. Cornyn sticking with his endorsement of Charlie Crist, despite the fact that Conservatives are lined up against him in favor of an actual Conservative, Marco Rubio.
And now we find out that Cornyn has been siding (hard) with RINO Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), and seems to be trying to help her pull an Al Franken in her apparent primary loss to Tea Party-favorite Joe Miller.
But word is coming out of Washington that the National Republican Senatorial Committee, already in “cover their butts” mode, is intervening in Alaska to help Lisa Murkowski.
John Cornyn, Chairman of the NRSC, has been upfront that the NRSC will help incumbent Republicans being challenged. But there is a problem with Murkowski. I have confirmed through multiple sources that Lisa Murkowski has already approached the Alaska Libertarian Party. In exchange for putting her on the Libertarian ticket in November, Murkowski will hand the Libertarians a sizable chunk of her +$1 million war chest.
The Libertarian Party Chairman, Scot Kohlhaas, is denying direct talks with Murkowski, and says it probably won’t happen, but I can confirm conversations are still happening regarding this.
I am willing to bet that John Cornyn is sending Murkowski help without first getting a promise from her that she will not run third party if she loses.
What’s more, the NRSC, in “cover their butts” mode, is telling every reporter who will listen that Lisa Murkowski did not take the NRSC’s advice and attack Joe Miller. In fact, the NRSC gave the same advice to Sue Lowden, Jane Norton, Charlie Crist, Trey Grayson and other NRSC losers.
The advice is simple — attack the opponent for being fiscally responsible, i.e. opposed to earmarks and being a real fiscal conservative.
And from Riehl World View:
It isn’t as if Cornyn’s NRSC wants another independent-minded conservative like Jim DeMint to join the club on the Hill. And when one thinks of how influential any one senator can actually be, especially within party ranks, there is far more at stake here than what some pundits seem to believe.
There are additional reasons why we may soon see what amounts to a civil war within the GOP in Alaska, one that could easily spill over nationally, infuriating the Republican base if the establishment attempts to steal this election for Murkowski. And Murkowski will do the GOP brand no good among the grassroots if she pulls a Sorry Charlie Crist and opts for another route.
I’ve had more than enough with Sen. Cornyn and the NRSC going against the vast majority of Conservatives, undermining our electoral wishes at every turn, in favor of his own self-serving party and interests.
My feelings are mirrored exactly by Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC), who said, “I would rather have 30 Republicans in the Senate who really believe in principles of limited government, free markets, free people, than to have 60 that don’t have a set of beliefs.”
Sen. Cornyn does not share those beliefs. Instead, he has become every thing I despise most — a typical inside-the-Beltway politician. Kay Baily Hutchinson is a liar and a fraud. Sen. Cornyn is a self-serving member of what Rush Limbaugh calls our Ruling Class.
Texas deserves much, much better than these two as our Senators. In a sane and just world, both would be swept out of office at the earliest possible chance, and better men and women than themselves would replace them. Men like Texas Railroad Commissioner Michale Williams…

I agree. When I read about the NRSC sending a high level expert to Alaska to help Murkowski I was livid.
Defeating the political dynasty types is essential.
I had already just about had it with Cornyn when he was chosen to be the NRSC leader. That was his bona fides as a GOP establishment figure, which makes him my enemy.
Michael Williams should be the KBH replacement and Ted Cruz should be Cornyn’s.
It’s been years since I trusted a word out of his mouth. Even though I know it makes no difference, I continue to call his office and remind them of my oath to do my utmost to see him defeated when next he runs. I will publicize loudly and often his many betrayals of conservatives, and I will work tirelessly for his opponent. The depressing thing is I know it’s all for naught; just like McCain, Cornyn will get lots of rah-rah-Republican votes. There are too few genuine conservatives, even here in Texas.
Good luck riding that wild hobby horse, Robbie.
Cornyn is an entrenched, establishment, insider, monied-up kind of guy. Kind of like Perry.
You ought to consider tossing all of the babies, along with the bath water, if a serious change in conservative operating culture really maters to you.
Not that most Texas GOP voters would ever consider committing that sort of self-serving heresy, they’ve been too well trained in cutting their own throats.
Why bother with the responsibility of actual liberty when we have Republicans to gild that difficult bitch of a lily?
