This video is a couple of years old, but I hadn’t seen it yet:

I’ve always been a big fan of Gene Simmons and KISS — was one of my first “favorite bands” when I was a kid. At the age where todays kids are listening to Hannah Montana, Justin Bieber, and the Jonas Brothers, I was rocking out to “Detroit Rock City” and “Shout It Out Loud.”

We’ve watched the Gene Simmons Family Jewels show on A&E on-and-off for several years, and I gotta admit, I’m a fan of Gene Simmons and his family. As I wrote back in 2006:

The premise is essentially the same as The Osbournes, with cameras following Simmons and his family around to document their home life — except the Simmons family is exceptionally likable, funny, smart, and…well…normal; this show is surprisingly entertaining and watchable.

Especially Gene’s kids, 17-year old Nick and 14- year old Sophie. We’ve watched several episodes, and I’m struck at how well adjusted, funny, and smart they are. And how well they get along with their parents (both of them).

There seems to be a lot of genuine love and respect in the Simmons family…they all really seem to like each other. Nick might be the most likable 17-year kid I’ve seen or met in a very long time.

Gene is unexpectedly self-effacing, and really seems to enjoy having his kids treat him more like a goofy parent than the Demon of Rock.

Gene considers himself a “Libertarian Republican,” and obviously has a great deal of respect for the troops, too.

Gene Simmons was born Chaim Witz in Haifa, Israel, and immigrated to New York City in 1957 with his mother — a Hungarian immigrant and the only member of her family to survive the Holocaust — after his father, Feri Witz, abandoned his family.

  1. I love the show. My DVR is set. I come home for lunch everyday and watch it at noon.

  2. I saw that video a while back. His support for our troops is genuine.
While I am a Gene Simmons fan, never got into the band or its music. Too ‘glam’ for me.
I have always been a fan of some little old bands from Texas…ZZ, SRV, and Pantera.

  3. nice vid robbie…goosebumps.

  4. Nice. back to the show for a minute..don’t you just love the conversation that ensues when someone in his presence mentions the “M” word? lol he cracks me up.
Sophie has grown up into a stunning young woman.

  5. Excellent! And the end is correct. I was at a movie theater not long ago and an older gentleman had a Vietnam Veteran hat on, I stopped and thanked him for his service and his face lit up and his daughter by his side, her face lit up looking up at him and she smiled the prettiest smile. I thank young and old whenever I see them..where ever I see them.

  6. For the Leftards are Nucking Futz Department

Regardless of whether you approve of koran burning or not, one, the First Amendment was written specifically to prevent the use of the courts to block political speech. Two, how boneheaded does one have to be to believe that not burning the shitty book will have any influence on madmen?

    • It’s simpler than it appears.
This Dove church in Gainesville is in alliance with the Westboro Baptist Church.
They are not only churches with small congregations, they are publicity seeking attention whores for one simple reason. They are fake Christians, they are trolls.
The asshole in charge of WBC, Phelps, is a former Democrat campaigner for algore and a DNC gore delegate. Phelps was gore’s guest for the Presidential inauguration in ’93 and ’97.
Both alleged churches have taken these radical positions to disgust people and cast aspersions on Christianity.
These people don’t hate fags or islam, they hate America.

      • Well, the feds still can’t get an injunction against them. For a leftard to even suggest it, means he hasn’t a clue about the First Amendment.

        • Sorry, failed to address what you posted.
Of course it is absurd. His first amendment rights are secure, no reasonable person would think otherwise. So is the GZ Mosque.
While most will agree they are within their rights, it doesn’t mean we approve of their poor judgment or bad taste.
The Dove church has 50 members. That they are getting this much attention and outrage must make them cream their jeans.

  7. You’re still missing my point. Many people talk about the first amendment but few really know what it does, i.e., it bars state action interfering with certain rights. Almost all complaints of first amendment violations are frivolous because of the lack of state action. Rarely do you find state action.

Here the educated leftard is urging state action by the feds which is clearly illegal. Yet, he thinks everyone else is stupid and primitive.

  8. That video is timeless.
Re: Family Jewels, let’s not forget :
    1. You can understand what Gene is saying (took me several episodes of Osbornes before I could really understand Ozzie).
    2. The Simmons’ episodes aren’t full of beeps going off all the time because the Simmons don’t cuss the majority of the time. In fact, it’s rare to hear a censoring beep with the Simmons.
