As difficulty as it is for me to listen to the man’s voice or see him on my TV, I watched the entire Obama “End of Combat Operations in Iraq” speech last night.
Color me not impressed. The man’s insincerity and complete lack of respect for the US Military and their mission was palpable. I kept imagining the heartfelt and respectful speech that President Bush would have made to signify the end of combat and the victory in Iraq — which would have been 180 degrees from the half-hearted “look at me” speech Obama gave last night.
Like Ace, I got exactly the speech I thought we’d get:
We already know what he’ll say: You’re welcome.
The I’s will have it.
We know he’ll say:
This is a promise I made, which has been kept, even though the promise was to get all troops out of Iraq.
I did this. Even if it was Bush’s timetable.
The surge? Never heard of it.
The troops…? They, maybe, had something to do with this. But mostly, you know, it was me.
Paul Mirengoff gets it exactly right when he says, “Obama tried to give the appearance of graciousness without actually being gracious. Among his many other faults, the man has no class.”
That’s it right there — that’s the thing: President Bush is a man who exudes class and a grace that Obama is completely bereft of.
Obama did nothing to add to the victories and successes in Iraq, and in fact, did everything he could do while a Senator to obstruct and oppose victory. An honest man sitting in his place last night would have admitted he was wrong. But then again, Obama is not an honest man.
The man is unfit to command our troops, which makes it little wonder he is so poorly regarded and trusted by the men and women who wear our Nation’s uniforms.
