Abortion is not one of my big issues. I’m a guy; I’ll never have one. And I married a woman who would never even dream of having one.

Sure, I believe that abortion is a horrendous and morally unjustifiable act. But, as long as it’s legal…have at it ladies. But when you require force me to pay for your bad choices for this medically unnecessary elective surgery? Now that’s immoral.

And force me to pay for other people’s bad choices is exactly what the the Travis County Commissioners just decided for me.

AUSTIN (KXAN) – After hearing about an hour’s worth of public comments, all from those opposed to abortions, the Travis County Commissioners approved the budget of Central Health, formerly known as the Travis County Health Care district.

Part of the budget: $450,000 to fund contracts for abortion services.

So far this year, Travis County has paid for the murder of almost 550 babies — using my tax dollars. Making Travis County the only county in all of Texas who used tax payer money to pay for abortions.

Last year, the extraordinarily gifted writer Jaded Heaven wrote a thoughtful piece in defense of publicly funded abortions. Her argument boiled down to the Margaret Sanger argument:

I’d rather pay, through tax dollars, for a woman’s early abortion than raise her child for life with even more tax dollars.

Daphne followed that up with this:

My position on abortion is pro-life. I believe abortion is murder. I don’t like abortion and I certainly don’t want to fund anyone’s abortion through my tax dollars.

I also don’t believe that I should be responsible financially for housing, feeding, clothing or providing health care for anyone else’s offspring through government redistribution of my tax dollars.

Considering the wide array of convenient birth control methods, I don’t see any excuse for 99% of the abortions taking place in our country. I wish women would start taking responsibility for their sexuality, it’s just not that difficult.

One of the things that makes me angriest about this choice is that it was passed by three people — none of whom is accountable to the voters for their jobs. Sadly though, being that we’re in this Liberal oasis in the middle of an overwhelmingly Conservative state, this measure probably would be passed even if it were put to the vote.

  1. Unlike JH..I feel no need to be civil and..polite. So my question to the county if I lived there would be “Uhmmm excuse me you piss poor excuse for a human being but I have a question for you..you addelpated douchebag. Would you care to explain to me WHY I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR SOMEONE ELSE’S CARELESS FUCKING?!”

Seriously that’s one of my main problems with abortion is that it is a lot of times used as birth control AFTER the fact. Or someone couldn’t be bothered to wait til they were on the pill, or make their partner use a goddamn condom, but just spread their legs because they were horny. I’M supposed to pay for it? I. Don’t. Think. So.

  2. County commissioners?

No need to vote on it……they know better than most of us.

Say what? The County Judge and County Commissioners in every county in Texas are elected positions!

Of course in Travis County they are probably all liberal Democrats!

  4. What would you rather pay for; the small up front investment, or the long term welfare/lonestar/wic on the backside for 18 years. I say we pay for it up front, but then you are required to have your tubes tied at the same time.
