That’s gotta sting a little if you’re the former Mayor of Houston and their old boss.
_______
The two non-military professions I respect and admire the most are police/law enforcement officer and firefighter.
Men who put their lives on the line on a daily basis to protect other people. Very little is more honorable or braver than the jobs that these men and women do for us.
Which is why I think that it is especially telling that the Houston Police Officers Union have joined the Harris County(Houston) Deputies Organization and the Houston Professional Fire Fighters Association Local 341 in endorsing Gov. Rick Perry for re-election this year instead of their former boss, Bill White.
HOUSTON – Today Gov. Perry received the endorsement of the Houston Police Officers’ Union for the 2010 general election. He also pledged to make the abolition of sanctuary cities an emergency item in the upcoming legislative session.
“It is a distinct honor to receive the endorsement of the courageous men and women of the Houston Police Officers’ Union because they exemplify the values of personal sacrifice, integrity and public service that have made our state so great,” said Gov. Perry. “I look forward to providing the resources our officers need to continue providing the protection and comfort of Texas families need to feel safe.”
In his remarks, Gov. Perry assured that abolishing sanctuary cities in Texas will be a priority recognizing that some Texas cities have enacted sanctuary city rules that tie the hands of their police officers as they work to uphold the law. He announced he will make the abolition of sanctuary city rules an emergency item in the next legislative session, which will help ensure that Texas law enforcement professionals have the discretion to use their judgment, honed by years of training and experience, as they work to keep Texas communities safe.
As a general rule of thumb, I almost always try to be on the same side of an issue as the men and women of our military, and similarly, I almost always seem to side with the men and women in law enforcement. We wolves tend to think alike.

I haven’t heard many public endorsements thus far in this election cycle.
This is a big one and not just for the message it sends about the poor character Opie White possesses.
I had a number of professional dealings with Houston police officers, including detectives, many years ago. It appeared to be a first rate organization.
In other news, the latest Rasmussen poll came out today.
What this link’s limited report doesn’t state is, independents favor Perry by 59-34.
Buh-Bye Opie. Wish we’d never known ya’.
I don’t support unionization. However, police and firefighter unions definitely suck less than most public worker unions.
Besides, these unions both reside in Texas, which is a right to work state. Which means joining the union is not required to get the job.
