They still haven’t gotten the message: 8 GOP Senators vote against earmark moratorium.
Apparently these 8 were completely tone deaf to the mood of the electorate less than a month ago:
- Bob Bennett (R-UT) – defeated for reelection, Appropriations Committee
- Thad Cochran (R-MS) – Ranking Member, Appropriations Committee
- Susan Collins (R-ME) – Appropriations Committee
- James Inhofe (R-OK)
- Richard Lugar (R-IN)
- Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) – Appropriations Committee
- Richard Shelby (R-AL) – Appropriations Committee
- George Voinovich (R-OH) – retiring, Appropriations Committee
Notice what most of those RINOs have in common? That’s right — they are almost all on the Appropriations Committee, which means that they have the super-awesome power of deciding who gets how much of our tax dollars. If the moratorium on earmarks ended, they’d lose most of their power to enrich their friends, family, and donors.
I’m not surprised at all at any of the names on that list — I’m more surprised by one name that’s NOT on it: our own pork-loving Kay Baily Hutchison.
Interestingly, the majority of Dems who voted in favor of ending earmarks for the next two years are mostly incoming first term Senators, who most likely heard the message from their constituents loud and clear.
- Evan Bayh (D-IN) – retiring
- Michael Bennet (D-CO) – freshman
- Russ Feingold (D-WI) – defeated for reelection
- Claire McCaskill (D-MO) – freshman, up for reelection in 2012
- Bill Nelson (D-FL) – up for reelection in 2012
- Mark Udall (D-CO) – freshman Mark Warner (D-VA) – freshman

I agree with you on the Appropriations Committee thing. Goes to show they hate to give up their power and power hungry congressmen we do not need.
On the dem side, I kind of like Evan Bayh and Claire McCaskill. I think both of them are centrist on a lot of issues. The far left in Missouri hates McCaskill which shows she is actually a pretty good democrat.
And no, I haven’t given up being a conservative. I just think there are some good democrats and bad republicans and vice versa.
You have that right Dianne. I don’t give two shits about the letter after the name. I care about how they serve the people. We need term limits, however as long as the criminals run the prison… won’t happen.
We need to take back this country from career politicians. Coruption and greed will be the downfall unless we stop the bastards.
GOD BLESS TEXAS!!
I have mixed feelings on earmarks. On the one hand, it would be fine with me to end all of them. On the other, they really aren’t but a drop in the bucket compared to the spending that is contained in appropriations bills for this bloated government.
I read an interesting article from former Speaker of the House Bob Livingston that was very informative.
I particularly liked this phrase:
To the members of the appropriations committee, they understand the power of the purse strings. Some of the names on that list are people I consider to be good men.
For the donks on the list, many of them that are up for reelection in two years and in McCaskill’s case, she is already trying to hide who she is to try and save her Senate seat, but it won’t work. Several of the one’s defeated have intentions of running again, a few as Governor, so they are trying to hide who they have been all along. They all think they can make us forget they voted for TARP, Porkulus and ØbummerCare.
End earmarks, don’t end them, I can go either way, but cutting the size of Government by 20-30% is what I’m most interested in. Congress has the power to defund the teensiest thing that government funds are used for, lets start with the EPA, their budget was just given a huge increase, but Veterans affairs has remained the same.
