Lunch box

Imagine how embarrassed her dad was when he opened his lunch in front of the other construction workers and found his daughter's low-fat yogurt in his lunch box...

Just one more reason Liberals shouldn’t be in charge of our schools and public education:

An athletic and academic standout in Lee County said a lunchbox mix-up has cut short her senior year of high school and might hurt her college opportunities.

Ashley Smithwick, 17, of Sanford, was suspended from Southern Lee High School in October after school personnel found a small paring knife in her lunchbox.

Smithwick said personnel found the knife while searching the belongings of several students, possibly looking for drugs. …

The lunchbox really belonged to Joe Smithwick, who packs a paring knife to slice his apple. He and his daughter have matching lunchboxes.

Idiot educators and their “zero tolerance” policies, which remove from them the burden of having to evaluate individual situations to ensure fairness and common sense. Makes you want to find the principle of this school and mule kick him in the junk…

Once again, I maintain my opinion that, more-and-more, public school teacher has become a profession/career for intellectually- and ambitiously-lazy people.

Van Helsing at Right Wing News:

The actual purpose of lowering the boom on someone as totally innocent as Ashley Smithwick? Maybe it’s educational: to prepare her and her follow students for life in a country that has traded liberty for liberalism.

Exactly.

One of the commenters at RWN is spot on:

So thanks to our teachers unions we have an education system where students may be expelled for having cutlery and sharpies but teachers are secure in their positions even after being caught molesting children?

But hey, the problem is that we don’t spend enough money on education, not that we have deep institutional flaws that would be there regardless of their budget.

Back when I was in high school, I carried a 3″-blade Case pocket knife that my grandfather gave me every single day. In fact, just about every guy I knew did the same. And I don’t remember a single stabbing or slashing incident in the 4 years I was there.

  1. heh..idiots. Like you back when i was in school I carried one. wasn’t allowed to carry longer than 3″ but you could carry. Fucking liberals. Liberalism IS a mental disease/defect.

  2. Yeah, I remember carrying my 2 1/2 or 3 inch Buck knife with me every day. One day I was in the front office and the secretary needed a box opened. Out it came — zip-zip-zip — box open, knife closed and back in my pocket. The principal, assistant principal, and dean of discipline were all there, and any one of them could have pinged me on the school’s “no weapons” policy. The grinned at me, said “thanks, Greg”, and that was it — because the three authority figures could recognize the difference between a tool being properly uused (by a kid wh was a stockworker after school) and a weapon.

Fast forward 30 years. I’m teaching. The sweet young thing running the dance and drill teams needs a case of chocolate opened for her girls’ fundraiser. Out come my keys and the tiny Swiss Army knife on the keychain. Her response? A gasp and shocked comment about my carrying a weapon at school! As much as I love the young thing, I can’t help but think her attitude would make her right at home as a part of the Southern Lee High School administration.

  3. My grandfather gave me a a Shrade folder when I was in the third grade. I carried and cared for that knife for nearly twenty years, until there just wasn’t enough blade left to sharpen anymore.
I also had a .410, a .22 semi-auto rifle and a 8mm sporterized Mauser in my closet…with ammo, and yet it never entered my mind to use any of those “tools” in an illegal or improper manner.
Just a modicum of common sense should be applied in situations like this. Clearly it was never her intent to harm anyone, but the mindless actions by this school are doing irreparable harm to her.

  4. A paring knife? are you kidding me?? That’s like a wmd compared to the nail clippers that are so often confiscated from airline passengers.

Cynical? Hell yes, and damn well pissed off also!!

Have you ever noticed how much safer we feel now as compared to the 1970′s? (Just the opposite).

The fear shouldn’t be the nail clippers or the paring knife but rather those that push for such agendas.

    Keep your powder dry.

  5. Over at Steve Sailer’s blog, one commenter noted that the “disparate impact” of suspensions/expulsions on black students necessitated the “zero tolerance” policy – so that White kids could be punished in equal numbers, quelling the wrath of the PC establishment/federal government. The school needed to expel or discipline a typically-behaved minority student, so they found a White to counterbalance this and propitiate Black-Run America.
