An Austin police officer is in serious but stable condition this morning after being stabbed in the neck by a local PoS thug whom the officer was trying to arrest last night. After being stabbed, the officer (rightfully) shot and killed the man:

The incident began shortly before 11 p.m. in North Austin after Officer Frank Wilson and a rookie who was with him attempted to pull over a car for running a stop sign, said Assistant Police Chief David Carter, who is the department’s chief of staff.

The driver of the car, who was its lone occupant, traveled a short distance, then led the officers on a foot pursuit through a neighborhood near Parmer Lane and McNeil Drive.

Carter said that Wilson later found the man, and that a tussle began between the two of them.

During that fight, the suspect grabbed a knife from Wilson’s duty belt and stabbed him in the neck with it. Wilson then fired one round at the man.

Two thoughts:

  1. My thoughts are first and foremost with Officer Wilson and his family. Thank you for your service to our community. Our family’s thoughts and prayers are with you for a speedy and full recovery.
  2. I hope the victim is not related to the litigious Nathaniel Sanders family.

UPDATE — Well, isn’t karma a bitch? The dead suspect has been identified as Maurice Pierce, one of the men originally charged in the infamous 1999 yogurt shop slayings here in Austin.

The charges against Pierce were dropped, but he was arrested again in May of 2008 for — wait for it — resisting arrest and assault on a police officer.

Thankfully this PoS is finally off the streets for good.

  1. Good to know the as*hole is dead and the officer’s condition is stable. Hope he’s going to be alright.

    Off that topic:

Robbie, I hope you, Shannon, family, and friends have a wonderful and peaceful Christmas.

  2. Recidivist runs.
    Karma kills knucklehead.
    Patrolman’s performance properly praised.

  3. Damn glad to hear Pierce is dead. Let’s dig the bastard up next week and shoot him again!

  4. Good riddance to a scumbag. Even the worms deserve better meals. Get well soon, Officer Wilson.

  5. I didn’t know cops carry knives on their duty belts.

    • Yeah…very important piece of equipment. A very typical usage is to cut seatbelts from passengers who are stuck in wrecked cars.

I carry my knife with me everywhere I go and use it several times a day. I’d imagine a cop would have even more need for one.

      • Years ago, I rolled up on an accident just after it happened and one of the vehicles was upside down.
The crash was so severe the front seat came free from the floor and the weight of the two front seat passengers and the seat prevented the release on the belts from functioning.
Bystanders helped the people in the back get out while I worked to free the driver and front seat passenger. I cut the belt on the passenger and freed him, but in doing so, it caused the seat to shift and I couldn’t hand my knife to my partner. Covered in gasoline, I was running to the driver’s side, when smoke appeared. My partner grabbed me and pulled me away and the car burst into flames.
All we could do was stand there and watch a man burn alive, a horrible scene.
I don’t know of any patrolman, fireman or EMT that doesn’t carry a good knife or extraction tool. I keep one of these in my car.

  6. I remember the yogurt shop murders. Did anyone ever get charged/convicted?

  7. And now I realize I’ve found the dumbest blogger ever.
