More census data analysis shows another way Americans are voting with their feet. This Fact of the Day brought to you courtesy of Will Franklin, via Twitter (why yes, I did just install a WP plugin to embed Tweets directly into my blog posts, why do you ask?):

The full story is from Diana Furchtgott-Roth at the Washington Examiner, who writes:

Americans are leaving states with heavy union influence and choosing to live in “right-to-work” states with higher job growth where they cannot be forced to join a union as a condition of employment. With the 2010 census, nine congressional seats will move to right-to-work states from forced unionization states.
Unions do nothing but drive up prices and create lazy, entitled employees.

  1. Holy Crap, I’m 62 (probably be talking to the death panels soon) and I have but a few wishes before I die;

I’d love to see Obama slapped down and put in his place.

I’d love to see unions neutered.

I’d love to see this country flourish the way our founding fathers intended.

And, as an aside, I’d like to see Wiley Coyote snuff out the Roadrunner.
(I know, it’s a tall order but the Roadrunner can’t have that much luck).

  2. The population is moving to states that have no income tax. They also happen to be RTW states. It is the absence of income tax that is helping these states grow. Arizona is a RTW state and they have the worst employment in the country. That is the reason for the move to those states. The everyday person could care less about the RTW issue. This is Big Business big lie to try and break unions that are formed by workers.

      Partly correct.

I doubt that anyone moved here because they hated their union and they knew they wouldn’t need to belong to a union in Texas. People are moving here because our economy is growing, and the economy in their previous states is shrinking. In simpler terms, people follow the jobs, and right now the jobs are in Texas (and other conservative states).

But RTW is one reason why the economy here is doing better. RTW is good for business, and anything that is good for business is also good for jobs. And yes, that also means that business owners can make more money, which you probably view as a horrible sin. But if people make more money, that also means that they spend more money, which (obviously) also contributes to a growing economy.

    • Don’t underestimate our (Texas) and other no-state-income-tax states’ ability to remain as no-state-income-tax states is because unions, especially public unions, are not breaking state and employer banks while destroying productivity.

      Nothing exists in a vacuum.

Could care less? Come on….you mean could NOT care less. I am offended when people get that simple statement wrong.

NO2 is correct, unions at one time served workers well. My grandfather and many uncles enjoyed a comfortable retirement. Of course all the jobs moved over seas where the labor was cheaper. Now many of my cousins are not able to find work in an area that long ago was the steel capital. Fortunately for me, my father moved to Texas. Daddy worked 40 years for one company, I have not been out of work since leaving college and my brothers and friends all have jobs. This is at a time when the national unemployment is near 10%.

I say it all the time…because I know how fortunate I am to live here….GOD BLESS TEXAS!!

  3. This is Big Business big lie to try and break unions that are formed by workers.

The same workers who are lied to by the union organizers?
There was a time in America when unions actually served a useful purpose. Since that time the unions only exist for the socialist agenda of the union leaders.
