Rep. Peter King (RINO-NY) is starting to do some back peddling and spinning on his No Guns Near Peter King™ bill — as dumb and worthless a piece of proposed-legislation as I’ve ever heard of — which would prohibit law-abiding citizens to come within 1000′ of Peter King (or other Federal officials) while carrying their otherwise-legally owned and carried guns.
King said the legislation is not intended only for the safety of government officials but also to protect the public. He said elected officials are not necessarily more important than constituents, but by protecting them in this way, they would feel safer in meeting federal officials at public events.
“The fact is they do represent the people who elect them, and it’s essential, if we’re going to continue to have contact, that the public who are at these meetings are ensured of their own safety,” King said.
You know what would make me feel safer when meeting public officials at public events, Peter? The ability to protect and defend myself with a legally carried handgun. I do not want to have to duck and cover and pray that the bad guy is a bad shot or not looking in my direction while I wait 10 minutes for the police to show up (the amount of time it took them to arrive at the Tuscon Safeway store after Jared Loughner’s shooting spree).
Nobody is responsible for my own safety other than me. Having my own concealed handgun on my at all times not only increased my ability to defend myself, but others as well.
Thankfully Speaker John Boehner opposes this, or any other gun-control bills.
