Jared Loughner mug shot

How did they not know their kid was mentally ill? Does he look sane to you?

Randy and Amy Loughner released their first statement today after their deranged, evil spawn killed 6 people while attempting to assassinate Rep. Gabrielle Giffords:

This is a very difficult time for us,” said the statement, issued Tuesday afternoon by Randy and Amy Loughner. “We ask the media to respect our privacy. There are no words that can possibly express how we feel. We wish that there were, so we could make you feel better. We don’t understand why this happened. It may not make any difference, but we wish that we could change the heinous events of Saturday. We care very deeply about the victims and their families. We are so sorry for their loss.

I don’t doubt their sincerity, sorrow, nor the pain that they are feeling. They too are truly victims in this tragedy.

But as I look at that crazed mugshot of their son, after I read account-after-account of his disturbing and frightening behavior from fellow classmates and professors, after seeing the satanic temple he built in his backyard, and after learning about all of the death threats he’d made against others in Tuscon, I just gotta take exception with the bolded part of that statement.

I just have to ask: What the fuck do you mean, “you don’t understand” how this could have happened? “How could you not have seen this coming?” is the better question.

That’s why the parents really want the media privacy — they don’t want to answer questions about how they could have been so oblivious to the evil that was living under their roof.

  1. I don’t doubt their sincerity in expressing remorse for what their son did.
However, this beg-off does not immunize them from the shit storm headed their way.
They, along with Sheriff Clarence Dupnik Mike Nifong, are in the early stages of scrutiny that will make a colonoscopy look non-invasive.

  2. That’s got to be the most deranged mug shot I have ever seen.
Think the guy has enough intact mentally to Plan to look that crazy ?…thinking he’ll end up in a prison psych ward ?
    I say Fry him.
    About his parents…..
I don’t know if I can articulate this well enough but I understand maybe how they didn’t see that coming.
Their son wasn’t under 18 so they’d have no legal right to see where he goes online…..if they were unaware of any sign that they should go online and look for any pages he had.

If he was as distant and non-social to them, even though living at home with them, they wouldn’t have known much more than the neighbors did that were ignored by their son when walking the dog.
It is shocking how much parents sometimes do NOT know about their young adult kids…they know what they see and hear which in their son’s case may have been as little contact as they …allowed (I know – KEY phrase here) him to get away with… living in their home.

A psychologist once said that by the time kids are 16, their parents have already had all the influence they’re going to have…..the kids are pretty much now making decisions on their own.

I saw the picture of the killer’s shrine in the yard…..if his parents were as unaware of things as they apparently were….maybe they thought if that was the extent of their son’s weirdness…..at least it was at home on private property.

I can see how they could have been virtually blindsided.
It is sad that their son wasn’t living in his own place.
It would have removed a lot of the “What if’s” and “How did we miss this?” from their anguish.
I do not hold them responsible for their son’s behavior….and I think if they’d had ANY idea he was that dangerous, they would have intervened somehow. Even then, the police can say they couldn’t hold him or arrest him cause he has to be caught committing a crime.
I don’t know…..just my guess and personal opinion.
    Pardon my rambling, …
Did they even know their son owned a gun ?

I have a LOT of questions myself.

  3. Just thought of something else.
Perhaps because they saw him every day…his oddness, weirdness, anti-social behavior was, after awhile, routine to them simply BeCause they saw him every day……became desensitized to his behavior ?…everyone probably had their own routine around the house and I guess they saw each other coming and going…..while a neighbor who saw him only intermittantly recognized right away how bizarre and alarming his demanor was.

I think maybe the neighbors are now second guessing themselves, also, thinking they should have said something to his parents or maybe even the police but thought his parents already knew how disturbingly odd he was….while his parents couldn’t see the forest for the trees.

  4. Robbie, I am not going to defend the parents, but I can see how they could be blind to what he is. You know your kid if f*cking weird, and you know that he has had trouble at school, but parents don’t want to believe their kids are wierd and tend to believe what their kids tell them (It was the teacher’s fault, I was picked on, yada, yada). All the information coming out about him from former classmates is probably as big a shock to them as it is to us.

Now, with that said, I have more questions:

What the hell is wrong with the damn sheriff? Right now the most dangerous place in American is between Dupnik and a TV camera as he would run over you to get in front of that camera. Doesn’t this idiot, who claims to have been a law enforcement officer most of his life, know that he is tainting this case and giving the defense plenty of ammunition to use in an insanity plea? My God, I almost think that Dupnik is working for the defense. And the defense lawyer is no slouch, she has represented such cases as Zackarias Mousoui (sp?), Ted Kaczynski (the Unibomber), and helped with the defense of Timothy McVeigh.

Yet that damn sheriff continues to run his mouth. Why doesn’t the Arizona State Attorney General shut him down? The death of the citizens that did not work for the federal government will be handled by the state. I cannot imagine Greg Abbott letting the Travis County sheriff run his mouth like that.

  5. An article on Sheriff Mike Nifong that raises valid questions.
Jared Loughner is a product of Sheriff Dupnik’s office.

Once again, it takes the U.K. press to fully illuminate the story, this time about the worthless hippy pot head parents of the murderer.
Troubled background of alleged mass killer Jared Lee Loughner.

In recent years, he became a heavy smoker of marijuana and was rumoured to have sampled LSD. “His parents were very laid-back, like hippies,” said Jesse Martinez, 17. “They were live-and-let-live people, but not exactly in a good way, and so he grew up doing more or less what he liked.”

  6. My favorite Sheriff, Joe Arpaio, in Arizona made a statement today and besides saying Dupnik needs to shutup….he said to imagine the world of crap (my word) he would be in if he had said something as stupid as dupnik.
    http://nicedeb.wordpress.com/
Sheriff Arpaio is a few posts down.

If I sounded earlier like I was defending the killer’s parents….that wasn’t what I meant…..I have too many questions and don’t know how much they did or didn’t know….so all I have is speculation, generalities, and guessing.

Thanks, no2liberals for that UK link.
I’m off to read that one.

  7. What do you men by “crazed mugshot”?? Most of my company’s salesmen look like that.

    • Geez, Bill…what do you guys sell?

      • Mortgages for freddie and fanny!

I agree with all who claim dupnik irresponsible and a few brain cells short of an ameba. What a self centered camera hogging salty bastard of a guy. As for the parents…I can see how they were clueless. Purple haze my friend, good old 4:20. Some people should not be allowed to reproduce.

In the words of one of my true heros, Eric Cartman…. DAMN HIPPIES!

        GOD BLESS TEXAS!!

  8. Where did he get the money to buy the gun and ammunition?

    • Good question, Jaci. I haven’t read any reports anywhere that he was employed. Which means he was probably drawing some kind of government entitlement check.

      • He had to come up with almost $600.00 to buy the gun and extended mag new. Where he got that scratch is a question I’m sure the investigators have asked or will.
At this point, other than the grieving families, the people I feel the most sorrow for are the investigators and psychiatrists tasked with interviewing the fruitcake Loughner. Trying to get into his warped mind, extract information and then transcribe it into terms we can understand, will leave an indelible mark on their psyches.

        • He sold pot and lived with mommy and daddy. 6 bills is easy to come up with when you have all of that going for you!

        • D-Mac, I hadn’t heard about his career in pharmaceutical sales, not that it would be surprising to find out that’s what he did.

        • I hadn’t come across anything that said he was a drug dealer, either.
This guy is a one percenter, living in his own world and not fully functional in this one. I think it more likely that his dope smoking Momma gave him the scratch.

  9. I am just speculating about the pot sales. But you know…if wild accusations are good enough for the shierf they should be good enough for me.

  10. I am really inspired with your writing skills as neatly as with the layout in your weblog. Is that this a paid theme or did you customize it yourself? Either way keep up the excellent quality writing, it’s rare to see a great weblog like this one today..
