Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) is drafting a measure to allow members of Congress to carry guns in the District of Columbia, including in the Capitol and on the House floor.

I think this is a good thing, but only in as much as it’s a good start. Members of Congress should have the right to keep and bear arms in order to protect themselves and others just like any other citizen. And this includes in their place of business.

But any law allowing members of Congress to legally arm themselves must also be extended to every citizen who enters D.C. — Congress should not be making laws to make themselves a protected or privileged class (any more so than they already have and are).

Members of the Texas Legislature are allowed to bring their guns into the state capitol building. So are private citizens.

Ask Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson:

In fact, when the capitol police misguidedly installed metal detectors to a the entrances of the Capitol building last year (watching a bus load of little kids in their Catholic school uniforms have to parade through the metal detectors in order to tour the capitol was disgraceful), they created a separate line for CHL holders to bring their guns around the security checkpoints.

I’ve seen people wandering the halls of Congress with a (unloaded) rifle on their shoulder. Because it’s legal. And as it should be.

Practicing his second amendment rights

And this will probably freak Liberals out because the believe more gun freedoms only lead to more shootings — but in all that time that citizens and lawmakers alike were allowed to bring guns into the Capitol building (even before metal detectors), nobody was shot in the capitol building.

  1. Freaking out libturds is about as difficult as making a teenager depressed.

The only thing about arming the denizens of D.C. is that there are so many unhinged libturds that would use them improperly when they are in a foot stomping rage because their maladaptive ideas are opposed.

As for Jerry Patterson’s choice of a firearm for personal protection, I just have to shake my head…again.
Besides the fact that it is a .22LR, have you ever fired one of those NAA revolvers? It’s a lot of work for such little stopping power.
He should at least go with The Judge.

Not if they are part of the new black panthers. Then it is fine and dandy to openly carry weapons to intimidate whitey.

    GOD BLESS TEXAS!!

  3. I love this guy. Loved the video. Patterson makes me even prouder to be a Texan.

I read a great quote once, I think it was in American Rifleman’s Armed Citizen column that lists cases of private citizens using firearms to deter threats. The person was asked, “Why do you carry a concealed weapon?” They answered, “Because I can’t carry a police officer.” Enough said.

  4. The man with the rifle looks like my cousin in front of the State Capitol. Did anyone get his name?
