I (unapologetically) think that most dogs are better than most people. Their love, affection, and loyalty is unmatched by any species on this planet. Even ours.

And it’s because of this unwavering loyalty to all members of their pack — human and canine alike — that the suffering of dogs is intolerable to me. It’s why I hope Mike Vick burns long and painfully in hell.

With that said, videos like this are heartbreaking — a dirty, earthquake-and-tsunami rattled dog sits loyaly by the side of its injured canine friend and protects it from the obviously sympathetic reporters:

I aspire to be worthy of even half the esteem with which my dogs grant me…

The good news, being reported by The Guardian, is that both dogs were rescued soon after the video (and directly because of the reporters in this video) and are both receiving care at a local veterinarian’s office.

  1. I agree with you Robbie, I too am an animal lover and get very upset when I see animals hurt or being mistreated in any way, I try to give money to WSPA etc, and even thought about becoming a vet or vet nurse but would get too emotionally involved. Yes animals’ loyalty is amazing and certain humans would do well to learn from them. We have been changing our laws here to hand out more severe punishments to those who are cruel to animals, the SPCA and general public outcry has made these changes possible, however I don’t think any punishment is severe enough because if you are capable of hurting an innocent animal then god only knows what you are capable of. By the way I do like dogs but I have to admit I am a cat lover….sorry Robbie LOL!!!

  2. I would love to hear that this wonderful dog and his friend have been reunited with their human family.
Heaven knows what they went through to survive and the guardian dog was clearly terrified.
I like most dogs, particularly devoted and loving dogs like the one in this video.

  3. This is a heart-wrenching video to watch, especially if you’re a dog lover. There is nothing as pure and sincere as the unconditional love of a dog.

So glad you posted that the dogs have been rescued. My faith in humanity is boosted when people go out of their way to help an animal in need. There’s still hope for the human race!

  4. I will tell you a story of the love, and attachment, a dog will have for you. We had a yellow lab who lived to be 14. One night, when I was very sick, she had a heart attack when my better half took her for a walk. She just laid down. My better half picked her up and carried her into the house, laid her on her rug, thinking she was already dead. I freaked. When I bent down to kiss her, she raised her head, looked at me straight in my eyes for about 30 seconds and then she was gone. We wrapped her in her favorite blanket and called our vet.

The next morning when we went to pick her up for burial, she was still warm. The vet said that is was very, VERY unusal for her to live long enough to be carried back into the house. I didn’t think so. She was my friend, and she wanted to say “goodby” to me. That was how deep her love went.

She is now buried under a Texas pecan that is at least 100 years old. We buried her like the queen she was, with toys, food, all her belongings. And still today, I cannot bring myself to get another dog.

Now, for some reason, every stray cat in the world knows where I live. We now have four, all were strays, one is the last remaining kitten from a feral mom (although she is no longer at kitten at age 16). All have been neutered, and now live inside. Somehow, I just can’t say “no” to a animal (which includes the number of possums that eat the cat food I leave for strays outside).

I am glad to know these puppies made it. Yes, there is a God.

    • Beautiful story about your beloved puppy. I know exactly what you mean.

    • God bless the kitties and the puppies.
They give us so much love and teach us so much about ourselves.

    • What a beautiful story, very heartfelt. We are planning on getting a dog as we have now moved where we have a bit of land and I have always wanted a lab, they are such beautiful dogs. I am so sorry for your loss but what an amazing way to say goodbye. There is always a special place in our hearts for our animals that have passed, I still miss my two beloved cats that we had for many years and were very good mates to each other (there was 1 year difference between them), they died 2 months apart (actually one died Sept 11, and I have 2 reasons to remember this date in a very sad way!)), They had about 13 years together. At least you know that your precious dog knew how loved he was.

Hey No2Liberals…. cats rule, dogs are cool LOL!!!

  5. This is too funny.
    Busted!

  6. This is a lovely story regarding this article, i have a dog a Shih Tzu called Jasper who is 10 years old, i have had dogs before in the past. I think dogs are better than some humans by far and people who knock dog owners and say that their homes are dirty and smelly, of course some people’s are but many dog owners i know’w home are very clean and tidy. i know people without dogs who’s home are terrible. My Jasper is very sweet natured and is one of my best friend’s and i don’t mind admitting it. He is well looked after washed and brushed regular by myself and he has a lady who cuts and groom’s him every 8 weeks. Dogs can be more loyal than people and they don’t always want you to give give given like some people. I don’t think it is strange to like dogs more than some people. Animals whatever species they are have always had a place in some people’s hearts look at Diane Fossey with the mountain gorilla’s and Jane Goodall with the Chimps in Africa and George and Joy Adamson with Elsa the Lioness what a rapport these people had with animals.
