Maureen Murphy made this comment prior to christening the newest 9,200-ton, 509-feet-long Arleigh Burk-class destroyer.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BABY!

7 May 11 Christening of U.S.S. Michael Murphy
For the full story on today’s christening, here is the link.
A quick reminder of who Lt. Murphy was, he was a SEAL team member killed in a tragic battle along with 18 other warriors, the only survivor being Marcus Luttrell. Lt. Murphy was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor(posthumously) in October 2007 by President Bush.
While it truly is sad that Mrs. Murphy couldn’t be with her son on Mother’s Day, it is certainly a show of appreciation to her and her son for the sacrifice they made for this country.
I’m sure she would prefer to have her arms wrapped around her baby. Since that isn’t possible, may his spirit inhabit this ship for many decades, while protecting this nation and its crew.
Godspeed, Lt. Michael Murphy.

Saw this over the weekend, too. Fitting tribute to a true American hero.
Happy Mother’s Day, indeed.
I saw this over the weekend, also.
How absolutely awesome that Michael Murphy’s mom is the one who got to christen the destroyer named after her son !
A great additional treat for her with it being Mother’s Day.
and may that destroyer and anyone he carries, save lives send many enemies of our beloved country straight to the waiting arms of the devil himself.
