You Know What’s to Blame for High Unemployment? Obama Says it’s ATM Machines

No…seriously. That’s what he said. And I don’t think he was doing the stand-up comedian schtick he’s been rolling out more-and-more often these days to deflect attention away from his failed policies.

President Obama explained to NBC News that the reason companies aren’t hiring is not because of his policies, it’s because the economy is so automated. … “There are some structural issues with our economy where a lot of businesses have learned to become much more efficient with a lot fewer workers. You see it when you go to a bank and you use an ATM, you don’t go to a bank teller, or you go to the airport and you’re using a kiosk instead of checking in at the gate.”

I’m guessing his polling suggested that he couldn’t blame President Bush any longer for the continued high unemployment rates. So rather than do the honest thing — look at his failed policies and take responsibility — he instead looks around him, desperately looking for somebody…something…anything to blame. Suddenly, he spots something out of the corner of his eye…and quickly blames….ATM machines for our unemployment woes.

I’m reminded of Steve Carrell’s character, Brick, in Anchorman:

You can’t even make this kind of dumb shit up. Sure, you expect Joe Biden to say something this stupid…but Obama? He’s supposed to be the Smartest. Man. Evah!
