Amy Winehouse is dead. Forever.

Any chance she didn't die of a drug overdose?

I’m guessing a lot of people just shot to the top of the rankings in their group Celebrity Death Pool with this one.

Troubled, Grammy-winning singer Amy Winehouse has been found dead in her North London home, Sky News is reporting. The Daily Mail reports that police have confirmed the passing.

In a statement, the London Metropolitan Police said, “Police were called by London Ambulance Service to an address in Camden Square NW1 shortly before 16.05hrs today, Saturday 23 July, following reports of a woman found deceased. On arrival officers found the body of a 27-year-old female who was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries continue into the circumstances of the death. At this early stage it is being treated as unexplained.”

A suspected drug overdose took the life of the singer, Nick Buckley of the Sunday Mirror tweeted.

So, another self-indulgent, drug-addicted rock star who had more than enough fame and wealth to last several lifetimes, decided to waste it all away living a Liberal’s dream life of decadence and excess? Unceremoniously joining Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, and Kurt Kobain in the 27 club. Though neither her talent or fame should ever again be mentioned in the same sentence with those actual musical legends.

And I’m supposed to care or feel sympathy why?

The next paragraph of this post will be devoted entirely to how much I care that Amy Winehouse killed herself while the whole world watched and encouraged her:

  1. I feel sorry for those who actually cared about her and loved her.
Personally, I’m thrilled she didn’t contribute to the gene pool. She had her finger on the self-destruct button for years and she finally pushed it. That she died alone and nearly unnoticed, like Layne Staley, comes as no surprise.

  2. She was a fundamentally weak human being, like so many others, who had a particular talent. As happens to so many weak but talented individuals the demands of fame and fortune magnified weaknesses in her personality. Those magnified weaknesses led to her death. I know a great many personally strong individuals who could weather fame and adulation quite well, but they don’t have any talent.

I’m not excusing her actions; I’m explaining them. Two different things.

  3. Amy Winehouse= a liberal’s dream life.

What a ridiculous, ignorant statement. Especially ridiculous because I know you don’t believe it.

Gina Tenorio’s editorial is good, though. Thanks for posting.

  4. Two U.S. soldiers have been killed during a mission in southern Iraq, the U.S. military said on Saturday.

With these two recent deaths the total number of U.S. soldiers fatalities raised to 4,450 who have died in Iraq since the 2003 US-led invasion to throw out Saddam Hussein.

Oh, and one British “singer” drug addict overdosed.

  5. I’d like to see some more coverage of Iraq, too, Drew.

Oh, and saying that Winehouse led a “liberal’s dream life of decadence and excess”? That’s just as ridiculous as saying the man who murdered children in Norway this weekend was leading every right-wing conservative’s dream life.

Not a peep about him on this blog, by the way. If he’d been a left-wing crazy instead of a ring-wing crazy, I’m sure we’d hear all about it here.

    • No one wants to see your ass, quit showing it here.
If the unabomber loving, gay rights supporting Breivik is a right-winger, your trolling might be considered beneficial.
      Fuck off.

      • I don’t think I’m posting anything inflammatory (trolling). My comments are respectful, and in fact, I’m defending against people who would seek to make broad, unfair generalizations about conservatives (or liberals) based on the actions of one crazy person.

        • Fuck off, troll.

        • But now that I think about it, you do bring up a point that’s worthy of discussion: What counts as “right-wing”?

I’m curious to know what you think. If someone supports gay rights does that automatically mean they can’t be “right wing” or conservative?

Suppose you support gay rights, but you are against big government and high taxes and believe strongly in free enterprise and free markets? Does that still count as conservative?

Think about Pim Fortuyn, the gay Dutch politician. It’s debatable whether he counted as “right-wing,” but he was certainly no leftist. He was murdered by a crazy leftist.

        • Is a troll anyone who doesn’t agree with you 100 percent of the time?

        • Well, easy to see who won that little debate.

        • Yep, very easy.
There is no debate with a troll that continues to use sockpuppets and proxy ips.

        • Ha, conservative hick finds a computer, promptly gets schooled.

    • I don’t even know what a proxy ips is or how to use one. I don’t know what you’re so upset about. :-(

  6. I suspect that this was less an accidental OD but a suicide.

  7. I think you are all stupid! Amy was a very troubled person. But she was still a human being, u may not like her or her ways but u can at least respect her parents who are suffering right now

  8. Drugs are poison….this is very sad…it is terrifying to think a child even from a good family can fall victim to drugs…famous or not.

My heart is sad for her mother and her loved ones.

  9. Living the liberal dream- lol and the guy in Norway was-why is it because she was famous, that was the reason for her drug/drink problem-what utter bollocks.
I will shed no tears over her death, are there no right wing drug takers, heavy drinkers,or those suffering depression- she was a mixed up kid, well before she turned to music, and turned to music as an avenue to express herself, and wanted it to aid her fight with depression.
I agree it didnt help her, just gave her the lifestlye that put her in the limelight, and many blaming her drink/drugs on her career.
Are you that niave to think that only liberals take drugs, drink, or have depression- it had nothing to do with her career, so u carnt compare her to Jimmy hendrix etc.
I didnt like how she expressed herself, mybe that didnt help some people got the view of her they did.
So as its been documented that she was battling depression from early teens, why do you feel to spout out its because she could not handle fame.
She was a mixed up kid for many years, for some the dpression is so deep rooted it carnt be cured, and part of u dies every day- i sure hope u never get depressed to that point- as u will be a liberal then.
Truthfully thought, i trully never hope you get that depressed,it should not be oh she worth 20 million she shouldnt be depressed-money not everything.
I live with depression day in day out, i am not a liberal, dont have pots of money, have issues far beyond oh money will make it better- what a fucking shallow belief- do i want to be dead- u bet you life i do,i dont because of my kids- u have no idea what that feels like every day- fighting myself, my soul dying a little everyday- do i take drugs-erm no, do i drink, erm now and again, am i famous erm no,im a liberal, erm no,
so why am i different to Amy- because she is famous-thats why,sky news say no more

  10. Before Amy died I would just think how skanky she looked everytime she popped up in the news about more drug abuse. I thought “I don’t Want to know what her music sounds like if her appearance is any indication.” I imagined that listening to her sing would be a form of torture.

So I never heard any of her singing/music until I got curious after she died.
After a few videos at youtube where she was actually singing and performing well, I think she had a Lot of promise as a blues singer.
Her behavior in the last several years made it obvious she did not WANT help.
Eventually she sunk deep enough that she was lost to everyone.
She also bought ketamine Friday night among the other drugs, so it’s obvious she intended to check out permanently.
Whatever her demons were, she was a tortured soul and I hope she has found peace.

I do not understand the need to self medicate with drugs or alcohol…it seems counter-productive.
Who knows what pops up in one’s own biology from somewhere (evidently not her parents) amongst past relatives.that predisposes one to an addictive personality….literally in this case.
I do not believe it is only environment…..I think there’s something in one’s DNA or chromosomes that might contribute.

RIP, Amy…..but, you could have gone far with that Blues voice.

  11. …its still a life…bless her soul to the next progression of life…..for one not to care is one with no heart and just like a living drug abuser themselves.

Your message was heard amy, let the world be what they have become and begin to judge
