Well, unexpected by anti-gun Liberals and their buddies in the MSM, anyway.
And what might be the reason that thugs and criminals are shooting up bars and restaurants at a much decreased rate?
Virginia’s bars and restaurants did not turn into shooting galleries as some had feared during the first year of a new state law that allows patrons with permits to carry concealed guns into alcohol-serving businesses, a Richmond Times-Dispatch analysis found.
The number of major crimes involving firearms at bars and restaurants statewide declined 5.2 percent from July 1, 2010, to June 30, 2011, compared with the fiscal year before the law went into effect, according to crime data compiled by Virginia State Police at the newspaper’s request.
And overall, the crimes that occurred during the law’s first year were relatively minor, and few of the incidents appeared to involve gun owners with concealed-carry permits, the analysis found.
Yep — that’s right. Relaxed conceal carry laws permitting citizens to carry in bars and restaurants. Which means that crooks and thugs (who are cowards by nature) were much less likely to rob a place (or start trouble) if there was an increased chance that several patrons might be carrying guns.
Despite the fact that this happens Every. Single. Time. that citizens are given more freedom to lawfully carry concealed weapons — no increase in gun violence, no Wild West shootouts — the anti-gun Left continues to use it as an argument against allowing citizens to fully practice their second amendment rights.
But it never happens, because concealed handgun permit holders are perhaps the most law-abiding citizens in our entire nation.
“The numbers basically just confirm what we’ve said would happen if the General Assembly changed the law,” said Philip Van Cleave, president of the pro-gun Virginia Citizens Defense League, which strongly lobbied for the law’s change that made Virginia one of 43 states to allow concealed guns in restaurants that serve alcohol. “It’s sort of a big yawn. So from my point of view, none of this is surprising.”
“Keep in mind,” Van Cleave added, “what the other side was saying — that this was going to be a blood bath, that restaurants will be dangerous and people will stop going. But there was nothing to base the fear-mongering on.”
State Sen. A. Donald McEachin, D-Henrico, who was a strong opponent of the law, said it’s not clear what conclusions can be drawn from just a year’s worth of data.
Well, Sen. McEachin, that’s because you’re a moron who couldn’t draw a conclusion if you were given a 64-count box of Crayolas and a blank canvas.

It truly is amazing that the anti-gun zealots continue to use the same false arguments after being wrong countless times. The study the Dept. of Justice used to conduct every ten years(not sure if the current Dept. of JustUs will continue the study) always proved from federal inmate surveys that criminals fear the armed citizen far more than they do law enforcement.
I almost bought an AMT Hardballer a few years ago for one reason only, its provenance. The original owner had been dragged out of a bar in Indiana and beaten severely by seven people. They left him laying unconscious in the dirt parking lot in a pool of his own blood and broken teeth. He regained consciousness, crawled to his vehicle, retrieved said Hardballer and made it back inside the bar, where he shot all seven people who had nearly beaten him to death, killing five and wounding the other two. The man was exonerated by a jury of any wrong doing, based on the severity of his injuries and no criminal history.
Oooo! I like that gun No2. I forget, was that one you had suggested? I’ll go back and pull that info email up. I guess the Terminator used one of those with a laser sight.
I wouldn’t recommend it for concealed carry, it has a seven inch barrel.
Yep, that is the gun with the laser in the original Terminator.
Of course concealed carry permit holders are among the most law abiding citizens.
I remember bars that I used to frequent in my wilder days. A very large percentage of the patrons were armed, mostly illegally because there were no laws to allow most of us to carry. I do not remember many bar fights because the people there knew the outcome of being stupid in public. Oh yeah, almost all of us were drinking, we just knew that no excuse like intoxication would excuse stupid behavior or keep you alive if you tried to use a weapon without good reason. It is amazing how sure and certain death focuses the mind and causes you behave like you should, maybe that would still work today, oh yeah it is working in Virginia.
Stupid people do stupid things and use whatever label or excuse we as citizens provide as a reason to act stupid.
Make your public actions reasonable and you won’t need an excuse or a funeral, the citizens in Virginia are armed and sane.
