Occupy Wall Street’s Finance Committee has nearly $500,000 in the bank, and donations continue to pour in — but its reluctance to share the wealth with other protesters is fraying tempers.
As the old saying goes, “follow the money.” Just who are the people on the finance committee and who put them in charge? Isn’t one of the claims of the ‘Parasites On Parade’ that Wall Street Bankers are eeeeevil and should give back money to the proletariat masses? Gourmet quality irony.
Pete Dutro, 36, a Brooklyn tattoo artist who is getting a master’s in finance and sits on the Finance Committee, said big purchases like Smith’s can’t get immediate approval.
“We don’t have the power for that. They have to go to the General Assembly. If it’s approved, we pay out that amount and make sure everything is accounted for,” he said.
This is just too rich!
A tattoo artist is on the finance committee. In addition to how absurd that is, there is a General Assembly that decides where the money goes AND they require PAPER WORK. Irony, sweet-sweet irony.
Last week, on a rainy night, someone stabbed holes in many of the protesters’ drums with a knife, said Elijah Moses, 19, of Queens, a founder of the Pulse Working Group. Moses asked the General Assembly — the nightly meeting where protesters collectively vote on OWS decisions — for $8,000 to replace the drums, and build a small shed to lock them up.
“They said no — they turned us down. I’m really frustrated,” said Moses.
Here comes the Schadenfreude!
The obnoxious drummers are upset that their vandalized drums won’t be replaced from the $500,000 in the general fund nor will they be getting funds for infrastructure(a shed) to keep them safe. The money collected is actually sitting in a bank, that’s right a BANK! Isn’t this motley crew opposed to banks AND capitalism? What bank and what is the name on the account? Is it an individual account or is it a corporate account? Is the person or group that the account belongs to registered and is making required filings?
The Schadenfreude is strong in this one!
When the ‘Parasites On Parade’ finally ends, and it will, some one or some small group is going to have a lot of ‘walking around’ money, while the smelly masses who panhandled for it will be in the same sorry condition they were in before, blaming unknown individuals and corporations for all their troubles.

No OWS supporter has ever seen a single bank statement showing that there is money there or where it is going, and perhaps, of most concern — where the money is coming from. The OWS Finance working group refuses to allow any one access to any records.
