The hacker collective who goes by the name Anonymous had planned to expose collaborators with Mexico’s bloody Zetas drug cartel – a project it dubbed “#OpCartel” – after one of their members was reportedly kidnapped by the cartel.

From the moment I heard this, I though…oh man, this is going to be bloody as hell, and a lot of nerdy hackers’ bodies are going to be found charred to the bone, beaten beyond all recognition, and hanging from a bridge. And those will be the lucky ones…the unlucky ones will be found hanging from the bridge after watching their spouses, parents, and children tortured and murdered first.

I’m sure these brave Anonymous hackers think they are untouchable and that nobody can find them…but then again, they’re dealing with a group with deeper pockets than China (and less regard for human rights, though just barely).

But, it looks like disaster has been averted, as the hackers are backing off of their threats to expose the cartel’s list of collaborators. I’m sure once each hacker realized that they would rat out one of their fellow hackers for the millions of dollars the Zetas would have offered as hit money, it occurred to them that each of their fellow hackers would turn them over to the Zetas in a nanosecond to claim the money or save their own skin, too.

The apparent climbdown by the group came as one security company, Stratfor, claimed that the cartel was hiring its own security experts to track the hackers down – which could have resulted in “abduction, injury and death” for anyone it traced.

It reminds me of the brave US newspapers who don’t mind posting disgusting cartoon mocking and denigrating Jesus Christ (in the name of first amendment freedoms), but then cower from ever showing blasphemous images or cartoons of the prophet Muhammed (piss be upon him). Because they know that angry Christians won’t storm their offices and behead their editors while burning the building to the ground. Angry Muslims, on the other hand…

One Response to “Zetas Cartel vs. The Hackers — I’m Putting All My Chips on “Zeta” for the Win”

  1. This anonymous group is just a bunch of young wusses that have some tech skills. Their foolish threat to a pack of psychopaths meant nothing when they made it and even less now that they have backed off. What about their claim that they never forgive or forget or back down?
I know who the Zetas would have hired, his name is Aaron Barr and he figured out who many of them were, then his security firm got burned by these wimps. Then about five months after they hit his firm, sixteen of them were arrested by the FBI. If I were Barr and knew what he knew and how to find out things, I would gladly take the Zetas blood money to get back at these punks.
Now they are threatening FOX news and their employees FB and twitter accounts. I wonder who has the greater resources, FOX or the Zetas?
