Back in June during the AVA Awards, Country music legend and Air Force veteran Willie Nelson gave an emotional introduction for his friend Kris Kristofferson who was accepting the Veteran Of The Year Award.

Kristofferson, who served in the US Army and still proudly references his jump wings and Ranger tab, has, sadly, become a bit too influenced by the Liberal degenerates in Hollywood. But you get the sense that he’s still a good and decent man.

One item of note in his speech, which probably drew the biggest applause was when he said that, “Maybe military service ‘oughtta be a requirement of our political leaders today.”

I agree 100%. And not just because of the invaluable lessons that you learn in the Military. Not just because you really learn that “freedom”, “honor”, and “duty” are more than just words.

Which is why I won’t vote for a President who has never served in the US Military. If you want the power to send our men and women into war, you had damned well have been willing to go yourself at some point in your life.

One of the reasons that Gov. Rick Perry is the honorable man that he is today is because of his time spent flying planes in the US Air Force. It’s one of the life experiences that makes him the best candidate we have running for President.

  1. I couldn’t agree more.

    Especially the President.

We’ve probably had some presidents in the past without military experience who didn’t suck as president, but right now I can’t think of any names.

I’m still going to change the 2012 to 2016 on the “Allen West 2012″ bumper stickers I still have and put that on my car.

  2. Just bear in mind that the two GOP/RNC frontrunners, Gingrich and Romney, both qualify for the term “blatant draft dodger”. They may preach patriotism but they damn sure avoided walking the walk during Vietnam. Piss on both of them for that and innumerable other sins.

  3. The United States stands for freedom. Freedom of speech is one of it’s main tenets. Mr. Kristofferson spoke against war, in particular Viet Nam. As a Nam Vet it did bother me, but it must be remembered that a military man abhors war more than a civilian, because he has to fight in that war. But he fights when his country asks him to as much as he abhors it. Also, as an American citizen, it is also his right to not agree with that war as Mr. Kristofferson has done, but he did, as others should, do service for their country.

    • @ Sarge – it should also be noted that he volunteered for VN and when the Army instead issued him orders to teach at West Point, he resigned his commission. He was not afraid to fight or go where you were . . . he was not allowed by higher ranking officers.

  4. that award was in 2002… not june of 2011

  5. All well and good. Only thing is Kris did not want to go the military or have anything to do with it and only went under pressure from his GENERAL father who later disowned him because of his music career and not military career and feelings of military. He was anti war and wrote protest songs.

I understood but do not know if its true that Kris was raised in military school and taken too school everyday in a limo. Most info on his life seems to be erased and only basic facts skipping many years of his life.

Now is he an old man thinking different? Like John Wayne who drank himself to death cause as he aged he became more and more ashamed he accepted to allow the movie industry to get him out of the second world war instead of going like everyone else when he found he was eligible to go. Who knows –sometimes who and what we are in our youth is very different in our older age.

    • Maybe you should check your facts before making statements that defame someone. It’s obvious that you don’t know what you are talking about.
