I know that Obama’s “The Life of Julia” epic-fail campaign idea has been out for a few day now, and I wanted to write about it as soon as I saw it, as it’s easily the most idiotic, insulting, and eminently mockable campaign idea I’ve ever seen. But, alas, having a baby and living at St. David’s hospital for 5 days kind of interrupted my plans.

But I wanted to post a few quick thoughts and some great links to some great writers who did get up a timely post on this subject — to give y’all a place to laugh and mock Obama, too, and for some historical preservation.

Of course the obvious biggest problem is described by the Foundry, who also proposes better life for Julia:

Her name is “Julia,” and if you haven’t seen her, she’s a colorful cartoon character invented by the Obama campaign to help spread the message of how women will “benefit” under the president’s policies. What it shows instead, though, is the president’s vision of America — that individuals need the federal government at each stage of their life, and that he deserves credit for making our lives even better.

Talk about a war on women. This so-called Life of Julia is one of the most insulting thing to women I’ve seen in a long, long time. The premise is that women, without the help of a big government programs at every single state of their life, are incapable of taking care of themselves. That women are incapable of forging their own path, creating their own successes…without the guiding hand of a a benevolent big brother who will take care of them.

This should be every bit as insulting to all women as affirmative action should be to all black people (the premise there is that black people are incapable of  competing on a level playing field, and need special (and lower) standards than white people.

Some of the best reads on this:

  • Emily at Naked DC asks the exact right question: Who is Julia, and why am I paying for all of her shit?
  • The Daily Caller: Obama woos ‘Julia,’ other single women with promise of lifelong subsidies — you know…because with out government subsidies, women just are smart enough or strong enough to make it on their own.
  • PJ Media — The More Precise Life of Julia

Mocking the Life of Julia

Some of the best commentary though has come from those mocking Obama and the Life of Julia. Even The Atlantic noticed how damned easy it is to mock Julia and her so-called-statist life.

And few do it better than the king of mockery, IowaHawk:

Life of Julia mockery

More outstanding mockery from Sooper Mexican:

Mocking the life of julia

Nicole Gelinas writing at the City Journal wonders, “What if Julia had a son?” and pens The Life of Zachary:

How might Julia’s son, whom she names Zachary, fare in a post-Obama world? Herewith “The Life of Zachary.”

Age 0: Zachary is born. Nine months earlier, Julia’s government-provided birth control failed. Unprepared for this development, Julia’s sexual partner texted her that he was not ready for a child. Julia went ahead and had the baby, and so Zachary has entered the world without a father. He starts off with disadvantages because of Julia’s “choice.” But luckily, he’s a smart, sturdy tyke.

It was also yet another teed-up-and-hit-it-out-of-the-ball-park opportunity for Conservatives on Twitter to take an Obama hashtag, #Julia, and make it a laughing stock.
