polar bear on a cube of ice

But, but…if we don’t fund climate change programs, the polar bears will all drown! Think of the polar bears, dammit!

And just when you think that state Sen. Rodney Ellis (D – Inner-city Houston) couldn’t file any more ridiculous bills, he pre-files SB 78, “relating to the development of a climate adaptation plan by certain entities.”

In summary, Ellis wants the Texans to pay higher taxes to battle “climate change.” Al Gore would be very, very proud.

His bill, if passed (and it won’t), would require a number of state agencies, to include the Texas Forest Service, Office of the Comptroller  the Dept of Agriculture, the General Land Office, and the Parks and Wildlife Department (among many others), develop an annual “climate adaption plan” that would address each state department’s strategy for preparing for the “effects of climate change on the social, economic, and ecological systems of this state and to manage the risks associated with a changing climate.”

What a load of horseshit.

The bill also requires each department to find “potential sources of funding to support the entity’s efforts to adapt to climate change.” Which is the meat of this bill. Which boils down to Ellis wanting to spend our tax dollars on requiring feel-good programs to combat a non-existent problem.

This bill, like most of the others written by this clown, should die in committee without ever getting within a mile of a vote.

  1. Better that we

require a number of state agencies, to include the Texas Forest Service, Office of the Comptroller the Dept of Agriculture, the General Land Office, and the Parks and Wildlife Department (among many others), develop an annual “stupid legislation adaption plan” that would address each state department’s strategy for preparing for the “effects of stupid legislators on the social, economic, and ecological systems of this state and to manage the risks associated with a rampant stupidity.”

    Just a thought.

  2. According to a plethora of independent studies by some of the world’s most reputable organizations, including the Pew Research Center, anywhere from 95 to 99% of climatologists agree that global warming is a man made phenomena.

Every scientifically reputable organization in the world has supported man made global warming theory. Including NASA and the National Meteorological Center.

Don’t you think it would be ridiculous if you walked into an open heart surgery and told the 20 year veteran Harvard med school graduate to get out; you can handle this? Isn’t it only logical not to try commenting on highly advanced sciences and mathematics that elude your knowledge base? People go through rigorous university programs for years, followed by intense research using science and math far beyond your understanding, and you think your what…4 hours of wikipedia and a few pop science magazines give you the credentials to dictate domestic policy on the issue?

I might as well argue with a theoretical mathematician over the validity of the proof to Fermat’s Last Theorem.
