Obama Voices Support For Tighter Gun Restrictions

Posted By Robbie Cooper On 12/18/2012 @ 2:41 pm In 2nd Amendment | 29 Comments

I’ve said it before, if you go back and look at Obama’s record and rhetoric since his days as a state Senator in Illinois, Obama is the most anti-second amendment President in our country’s history.

I’ve had little doubt that part of a second term agenda would involve tighter gun restrictions and the eroding of our second amendment rights.

In the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary tragedy, Obama is again proving [1] he meant it when he said, “let no tragedy go to waste”

President Obama “strongly” supports the renewal of the assault weapons ban and would back new gun legislation, the White House said Tuesday, as the president spoke to a pro-gun senator who has shifted his position since Friday’s mass shooting in Connecticut.

“He is actively supportive of, for example, Sen. [Dianne] Feinstein’s stated intent to revive a piece of legislation that would reinstate the assault weapons ban,” White House press secretary Jay Carney said during his daily briefing. On Monday, Carney would only say that the president supports [2] the return of the ban and did not weigh in on the bill Feinstein said she plans to introduce on the first day of the new Senate.

Carney also offered some other gun laws Obama would back. “He supports and would support legislation that addresses the problem of the so-called gun show loophole, and there are other elements of gun legislation that he could support … high capacity ammunition clips, for example. That is certainly something he would be interested in looking at,” he said.

Idiots.

Let’s say I have a high-capacity magazine (not a clip — assholes calling for a ban don’t even know the difference between a clip and a magazine) of say…30 rounds (is that what they’re going to call “high-capacity”?). Let’s say I’ve got one 30-round magazine locked, and 5-6 more loaded and easily accessible on my gun belt or vest.

Now, let’s say that I decide to go on a shooting spree in a Gun Free Zone, such as…oh, I don’t know…an elementary school or a movie theater. If there is nobody in that Gun Free Zone with a gun, there is simply no way for anybody to stop me from emptying my magazine, re-loading (which takes less than 3 seconds), emptying my magazine, re-loading, and repeating until I’m out of rounds or — if enough minutes go by — police (men with guns) finally show up to stop me.

Now, let’s imagine that Congress, in all of their brilliance bans such high-capacity magazines, and I’m instead limited to the 13-round magazine used in my .45 ACP. Or even the 6-round magazine used in my single-stack .40 S&W. Now, let’s say that I have pre-loaded 10-15 of these magazines and have them reading to re-load. Now, imagine that I’m in that same “Gun Free Zone” intent on killing as many people as possible. Do you really think that having to stop and re-load (again, this takes less than 3 seconds) a few extra times in a zone where nobody…not a single person…has the ability to stop me is going to make a difference?

It’s like the people proposing this legislation have almost no familiarity with guns and shooting. Almost

Not to mention that there are already hundreds of thousands, if not millions of these high-capacity magazines in circulation in the United States. Please tell me about your plan to confiscate these. Do you plan on having gun owners voluntarily turn them in? What about criminals who are in possession of them? Do you think they will willingly hand them in, even if law-abiding gun owners do?

And there’s simply no way illegal high-capacity clips…errr….I mean magazines could possibly enter the country illegally via…oh, I don’t know…Mexico? I mean…we been exceptionally successful in stopping the flow of illegal drugs into this country.

Oh, and to help you media folks out who have been tasked to write about guns, but don’t really know the difference between semi-automatic and automatic, or magazine and clip:

magazine vs clip

Magazine vs Clip – try to know what you’re talking about before you start lecturing me about it, ok?

Once again, folks: guns (and high capacity magazines) are not the problem. Mentally ill folks running the streets with evil intentions in their hearts is the problem. And if you ban guns completely, they’ll find another way to destroy — they’ll barricade the doors and burn the school do the ground; they’ll drive a truck of homemade explosives onto the playground; they’ll careen their car at high-speed head on into a school bus full of children; they’ll…well, you get the idea.

MORE from RedState [3]:

Let’s make no mistake about the agenda here. The same evil man who killed 26 people in Newtown was not going to be stopped by a 10 round magazine or the lack of a pistol grip on his rifle. He had two automatic pistols in his possession [4]. If he hadn’t the automatic pistols he would have had revolvers or a shotgun. The net effect on a captive audience would have been indistinguishable. The rampage was not ended with him being overpowered or the victims escaping, but by him deciding to kill himself. The ban on assault weapon simply allows the anti-Second Amendment people to use the next tragedy… and the last body had hardly hit the floor in Connecticut before the politicization of the tragedy was underway… to demand yet more restrictions.

Also, don’t forget this…back in 1995, when Feinstein defended her own CHL license: “I know the urge to arm yourself because that’s what I did’ [5]
