Hope and change, folks. Hope and change.

Via Before It’s News:

In 11 different U.S. states today, the number of people on welfare exceeds the number of people with jobs.  This list of states includes some of the biggest states in the country: California, New York, Illinois, Ohio, Maine, Kentucky, South Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama, New Mexico and Hawaii.  It is interesting to note that seven of those states were won by Barack Obama on election night.  In California, there are 139 “takers” for every 100 workers.

  1. The Before It’s News crew is distorting things a bit – the figures are of those states where those on the public payrolls and those receiving state subvention surpass those on private sector payrolls. It’s not particularly accurate to claim that police and firemen are ‘takers’.

    • I just viewed the video and must have missed discussion on public sector employees. I think this only relates to the ratio of private sector jobs to welfare recipients in the identified states.

In any case, I hang my head in shame for Illinois…

    • foolishness…I would never say that I pay enough in taxes to completely support one person if there is a 1:1 rate of welfare to employed. Thats just rediculous

  2. Is this a true statement?

    • This is nonsense. The number of people on welfare (temporary aid to needy families) averaged about 88,000 per month in 2011. That number includes 72,000 children. The number of employed people in Illinois (non farm) is well over 5 million.

      • Your numbers are BOGUS. Try looking at the OMB’s numbers. You know the Office of Management and Budget. If anything your numbers represent one small city. Better luck next time.

  3. Yes indeed, take those debit cards from these losers and dredges of society. Do not allow the use of any government credit card in casino’s, strip clubs; limit use to grocery stores and medical facilities. No more free everything, screw that boys and girls. The cost of illegal’s on welfare and all the other services they have access to is right around $800 BILLION a year (government provided numbers for the skeptics).

For every worker in NM that worker has to support 1.5 losers on welfare. California is much worse and Illinois, well, forget Illinois, that’s obummer’s home state while he’s in America.

  4. Researching for less than 5 minutes on the internet shows several articles that talk about this very quote. The statistics used to make this statement were VERY slanted and excluded Government workers and included children and elderly as “welfare recipients” etc, etc. If you pick and choose whatever numbers you want, you can make any statement “true.”
