GA Police Release 911 Call from Family During the Shooting of a Violent Home Invader

And that’s exactly what Melinda Herman did.
I posted earlier about the heroic mom in Georgia who used a .38 revolver to shoot a home intruder while defending herself and her twin 9-year old children.
In every way single way, this mom is a hero. Not to be overlooked is the role her husband, Donnie Herman, played. He obviously is responsible for providing his wife with a gun for home protection, he taught her how to shoot it, and they obviously had a plan in case of a home invasion (get the gun, take the children to the safest hiding place in the house (the attic, behind a locked bedroom and a locked bathroom door).
And notice how calm and clear he is when talking to his wife on the phone just moments before career-criminal Paul Slater, 32, breaks through the bedroom door, the bathroom door, and then opens the attack door.
Is he in the house, Melinda? Are you sure?
Melinda, if he opens that door, you shoot, you shoot him, you understand?
And when Slater makes that fateful decision, Melinda Herman did not hesitate.
Watch this video, which includes an interview with Mr. Herman, and parts of the 911 call he made on one phone while talking to his scared wife on the other:
Donnie Herman needs to be on every national news show. This guy should be the voice and face for owning guns.
My wife is a hero, she protected her kids, she did what she was supposed to do as a responsible, prepared gun owner.
Damned straight she is, sir.
Once again, it’s vital to point out that if Sen. Dianne Feistein or Mayor Michael Bloomberg had their way, this mom and her children would have had nothing more than their pleas for mercy with which to defend themselves from this PoS thug. And that wouldn’t have helped them, and they would all be dead, raped, or other-wise seriously harmed.
And it also bears repeating: if you have a family, you have a moral obligation to own and keep guns, to train your wife and (once old enough) children on how to use them safely and responsibly, and to practice self-defense scenarios in the home. It is NOT the police’s job to save your family; that is your job.

I think women with guns are sexy
Go Mrs. Herman!!! Seriously – does this not empower women much more than any Violence Against Women Act would? I think that the recent congressional decision to not reauthorize this act was a positive nod to all women in this country to legally eqip themselves with guns. A call to all women to follow Mrs. Herman’s example!!!
Very true I live so far out by the time police get here they can only make a report. As for largr magazine guns try hunting a pack of wild hogs with a single shot.
Mrs. Herman was strong and courageous and rational in a situation that would cause most to panic. I applaud her and her husband. My only concern, however, is that the POS she shot is still “clinging to life.” If it survives, after costing taxpayers hundreds of thousands in medical and legal bills, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it gets others of its ilk to try to harm the Hermans again, as payback. I’ve read before re the limitations of a .38 caliber weapon; this really brings them home and underscores the imperative for a heavy enough round to kill.
Good for you Mrs. Herman..I do hope you yourself do not feel bad for taking out, temporarily at least, the POS that invaded your home..And maybe think seriously about getting a 10mm semi-auto and loading it with hollow points..In hopes too, the kids are not traumatized too much..You and the family are in the prayers…
She is a hero and shame on the police for forcing her to protect herself and her kids.
