What We Can Learn from this Mother Who Shot a Home Intruder

The primary purpose of the second amendment is to allow US citizens the God-given right to protect and defend themselves from those who would try to deprive them of their life, liberty, or property.
And few stories illustrate the importance of the right to keep and bear arms better than this one from Loganville, GA:
The incident happened at a home on Henderson Ridge Lane in Loganville around 1 p.m. The woman was working in an upstairs office when she spotted a strange man outside a window, according to Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman. He said she took her 9-year-old twins to a crawlspace before the man broke in using a crowbar.
But the man eventually found the family.
Even had the woman had time to call 911 before 1) grabbing her handgun and 2) hiding her children, there simply is no way the police would have arrived in time to save or help this woman or her children. The old adage that the police are at least minutes away when you only have seconds to spare is spot on here.
“The perpetrator opens that door. Of course, at that time he’s staring at her, her two children and a .38 revolver,” Chapman told Channel 2’s Kerry Kavanaugh .
The woman then shot him five times, but he survived, Chapman said. He said the woman ran out of bullets but threatened to shoot the intruder if he moved.
“She’s standing over him, and she realizes she’s fired all six rounds. And the guy’s telling her to quit shooting,” Chapman said.
Good for her. And there are several lessons to be learned here:
Which is why my primary concealed carry gun is a Springfield XD .45 ACP and my BUG is a Kahr .40 S&W. Because if I hit you 5 time with either of these, especially if one ore more of those hits is in your face, you’re dead.
But if Dianne Feinstein, Mayor Bloomberg, Barry Obama, and the entirety of progressive bed-wetters had their way, this woman would have had nothing but her pleas for mercy with which to defend herself.
The only unfortunate part of this story is that the thug didn’t die.
And the final point:
Kavanaugh was the first reporter at the scene as deputies investigated. The victim’s husband told Kavanaugh he’s proud of his wife. He was on the phone with her as the intruder broke in.
“My wife is a hero. She protected her kids. She did what she was supposed to do as responsible, prepared gun owner,” Donnie Herman said.
He said he’s thankful for his family’s safety.
“Her life is saved, and her kids’ life is saved, and that’s all I’d like to say,” Herman said.
Amen, brother. Now…go out and buy your wife a .45 ACP, or better yet, a 12-gauge pump shotgun (such as this Mossberg 500 Persuader , which I just got for Christmas, which holds 8 shells). Just in case there is a “next time.”
Oh, and don’t expect this story to get much (if any) national attention from the anti-gun MFM.
UPDATE (Jan 6) — Michael Yon, a seasoned combat veteran, special forces Soldier, and now the greatest war correspondent of our time, noted these quick lessons via his Facebook page:
1) Do not break into someone’s castle
2) .38 is too weak. Always has been. Always will be
3) 6 shots are not enough. What if there had been three intruders? She hit this guy five times and he was still alive and talking, which means he could still pull a trigger.
4) Do not mess with momma bear when she has cubs
As to Yon’s less #3, this is why we need our high capacity magazines. Because you don’t know the nature or the number of the attackers, or what they may or may not be hopped up on, or what their intent. But having 30 rounds at your immediate disposal, without having to stop and reload, would have been exceptionally invaluable had there been a third or fourth attacker, wouldn’t you say?
