Nope, apparently it wasn’t. Because if these new gun restrictions ^[2] go into place, you can betchurass it’s going back to the Supreme Court:

Illinois Senate Democrats advanced legislation late Wednesday to restrict semiautomatic weapons and high-capacity magazines, pressing forward with new gun control measures in the waning days of the session over the objections of firearms groups.

Amid the developments, the Illinois State Rifle Association issued an “urgent alert” to its members warning them that Democratic legislators were trying to push through last-minute anti-gun legislation.

“There would be no exemptions and no grandfathering,” the group stated in its alert. “You would have a very short window to turn in your guns to the state police and avoid prosecution.”

A Senate committee approved two bills, one dealing with the weapons and the other with magazines. Democratic supporters could face a tough sell in the full Senate.

One measure would ban the possession, delivery, sale and transfer of semiautomatic handguns and rifles. People who currently own such weapons could keep them but would have to register them. The bill would allow semiautomatic weapons to be used at shooting ranges, but those facilities would be regulated.

Also banned by the proposed bill would be pump shotguns. Which means that ALL semiautomatic rifles, pistols, and shotguns will be banned; and all pump shotguns and rifles will be illegal.

In other words, 98% of the guns I currently own would be deemed “illegal” in Illinois. Again — there is simply no way I would volunteer to register or get rid of any of my guns. You know — because of the tragic canoe accident. You know — the one that sadly resulted in all of my beloved guns sinking to the bottom of the deepest part of the bay.

The bills, HB815 ^[3] and HB1263 ^[4], would ban 80% of all guns in Illinois.

I’m sure Chicago gangbangers, drug dealers and other assorted thugs will be lining up to be the first to register their weapons. And will now start to obey the even stricter gun laws that obviously weren’t strict enough to keep Chicago from becoming the most dangerous city in America.

Just a reminder on the consequences ^[5] suffered by Chicago’s already too-draconian restrictions on guns:

In 2012, 532 people were murdered in the city of Chicago, according to statistics compiled by the Crime in Chicago website. The number of people murdered the year before was 441, meaning in the city of Chicago, murders have increased by 91 from 2011 to 2012.

The website also claims that, through December 25, 2012, there 2,670 people were shot in Chicago last year. That’s also an increase from the year before, when 2,217 people were shot in Chicago that year.

All this ban would do — in addition to violating the second amendment — is to ensure that criminals continue to be better armed than the society they intend to victimize.

Gun manufactures in Illinois have already threatened to leave the area if laws limiting guns are put in place. ArmaLite owner Mark Westrom told FoxNews.com that he’s been fielding offers from at least two others states to move his operation if gun control laws in Illinois are pushed through.

Might I suggest moving to Texas?
