Austin PGR Missions for Vernon Hunter and Spc. Bobby Pagan

Gonna be a long, emotional day today with two Austin-area Patriot Guard Rider missions to attend. Since they both start at the same time, I’m going to stand the flag line for the beginning of the first funeral service, and then ride over in time to ride in the escort mission from Austin t0 the Central Texas State Veteran’s Cemetery in Killeen for the second mission of the day.

Another Motorcycle Rider Kills Himself in Austin

I’ve noticed that a very large number of the motorcycle fatalities that I read about seem to occur in the early morning hours between 1:00 and 4:00 a.m. — which indicates that the rider is very likely on their way home from a bar.

Trip Report: PGR Funeral Mission for Spc. Joshua Farris

Just before we got into Dripping Springs, I started to see small pockets of people — families mostly — lined up on the side of the road. All flying flags. I began to wonder if someone in the area had gotten word out that the funeral of a Fallen Hero was coming through their town.

PGR Mission for SGT Matthew Thomas of Lockhart, TX

My sincerest condolences to the family and friends of SGT Matthew Thomas. Matthew, thank you for standing for our country and defending our freedoms and interests. Rest in peace Soldier. I salute you.

ROT Rally 2009 Starts Today

It’s the biggest biker rally in Texas, and the 4th largest in the nation. More than 200K riders are expected in Austin for this event. Which, by the way, brings in more revenue to the city of Austin than does the SXSW or ACL music festivals.

Motorcycle or Prius: Which Has a Smaller Overall Carbon Footprint?

So if driving a new Prius makes you feel environmentally green, go for it. But you’re wrong. You’ve just transferred you great fuel economy for other more environmentally destructive manufacturing processes.

Texas 81st Legislature — SB 506: Lane Splitting for Motorcycles

If you have a vested interest in lane splitting for motorcycles in Texas, SB 506 is scheduled for a public hearing tomorrow by the Senate Committee on Transportation & Homeland Security at the state capitol building.

PGR: Special Mission at the Capitol for Spc. Brandon Meyer

Meyer was an all-American kind of kid — a star baseball player, a good student (he was studying Biology at Concordia University in Irvine), the son of a Lutheran preacher. He was deeply religious and deeply patriotic

Obama — True Americans Drive American Made Cars

I responded to Major Tom that after wearing my country’s uniform; after taking up arms in her defense — I never again have to prove my patriotism to anybody. And I’ve earned the right to ride whatever bike I damned well please without having to justify it to anybody.

Biker Babe Palin vs. Pee Wee Obama

One is a total dork. One is a total babe.

Motorcyclist Killed in Austin — Bike Dragged More than a Mile

The victim was likely hit from behind and ran over, meanwhile the motorcycle most likely became wedged beneath the truck.

Bike Blogging — New Bling

One of the joys of owning a cruiser is “making it your own” — and it seems that the job is never finished. I’ve been slowly customizing my 06′ Star Roadliner (1900cc and 113 cubic inches of pure happiness) over the last year.

John McCain Welcomed by Bikers at Sturgis

What are the odds that Barry O has never even ridden a motorcycle? I’d put the odds at “pretty damned certain” that he hasn’t. He can barely pull off riding a bicycle without looking like an idiot.

Chuck Burt — A Modern Day Renaissance Man

What was most apparent today was how many lives Chuck touched — and across an amazingly diverse swath of people. And they all had stories about Chuck’s kindness, his honesty, and his love of life.
