Posted by Robbie Cooper on October 9th, 2007 | Trackback

And now she’s teamed up with writer Melanie Wells and started their own blog (I Feel Awake Louise) about the perils of the creative life. The writing is exceptional and entertaining, and Trish (Thelma) shares some interesting and too-familiar themes and stories about growing up poor in rural Texas.

It was the first time I’ve seen a lead female cover Johnny Cash (Folsom Prison Blues), and she knocked it out of the park. Joaquine Phoenix should have been as convincing.

Thank God
The freaks and the geeks and the self-appointed “hippsters” have all gone home — or back to their day job at Flipnotics “online coffeeshop and clothing boutique”.
Why do I hate SXSW? Well, Karmalized — who loves SXSW and actually works the show as a volunteer — hits a big reason right on the nose:

But, it does bring an estimated $38 million economic impact to the city of Austin. So having 80K extra wierdos running around 6th St. for two weeks is somewhat tolerable (not that I’m seeing me cut of that $38mil).

On this Day in History: The Star Spangled Banner

Posted by Robbie Cooper on March 3rd, 2007 | Trackback

I still remember the day when I heard it for the first time while wearing my BDUs (while in basic training at Ft. Knox, KY). I got goosebumps and teared up listening to the words. Everytime I hear it now,I still get a lump in my throat.

A Rant About Pachelbel and Cellos

Classical music and cellos. Not usually the topic of comedy routines, I know. But this video of comedian/musician Rob Paravonian is really good.

7 Songs

I usually just keep my music collection on shuffle, but I’m wearing out the new Bob Dylan album, Modern Times and American V: A Hundred Highways by Johnny Cash. Modern Times has a very strong Texas blues sound to it…I’m certain that’s the influence of legendary blues guitarist Denny Freeman from Austin, who was in Dylan’s band for this recording (Denny was a member of the Cobras with Stevie Ray Vaughan back in the day).
