For the last thirty years, we’ve been told that fat is bad, and whole wheats and grains are good. But the time-tested theory of the Atkins Diet, The Zone, and to an extent Paelo are proving that it’s not the fat that’s killing us…it’s the carbohydrates

 

If you’re looking to make a real difference in how you look, feel, and your overall fitness level, I can’t recommend the combination of CrossFit (for your fitness) and the Paleo diet (for your nutrition) enough.

But one of the biggest reasons that I do CrossFit, is because guys like Staff Sgt. Cody with the 19th Special Forces Group, Afghanistan, depend on CrossFit to prepare him for the toughest job in the world in the most dangerous places in the world

 

It was a chilly 37 degrees when we started our 5:30 a.m. Crossfit Central class this morning, so I was hoping we’d do a WoD that could be done completely inside of our box.

 

Even then, I was not only the first person in our class to finish (the first time ever for me “winning” one of our timed workouts in our class…especially a good metcon workout), but I was the only one to finish in the allocated time of 23 minutes.

The actual Grave routine doesn’t specifically call lout clean and jerk. Instead, it’s simply from ground to full overhead (elbows fully locked out) by any means. However, our coach was insisting we do the full clean and jerk, which is great if you are not strong enough to use a power clean and press, push press, or jerk.

I completed 14 rounds. Best in class was 19 2/3 rounds. All rounds were jumping pull ups (kipping style), but all pushups and squats were done as prescribed.

 

I went with my wife this morning to enjoy a free Saturday morning workout — about 70 other Austinites joined us for a really good workout (8:30 — 9:30 a.m.):

We were not able to complete the Crossfit Total on Tuesday, so today we completed the dead lifts — my three dead lifts were 275-300-325lbs (PR).
