Meyer will be the first living Marine in 38 years to receive the Medal of Honor, the last being Sgt. Maj. Allan Kellogg, who received the MoH from President Nixon in 1973 (for actions in Vietnam in 1970).

Austin native 23-year old Dakota Meyer will become the first living Marine in 41 years, and only the third living recipient during the Afghanistan and Iraq wars to be awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor .

There are only two options in life. Fight or flight. Most people run. Almost all people run. But not US Soldiers. And especially not US Army Rangers. The difference between our military and everyone else is that they run towards the gunfire.

The following video tells the amazing story of Medal of Honor recipient Green Beret Roy P. Benavidez. A life filled with incredible hardships.

I’ve met several MoH recipients, and it’s an amazing honor. We can learn a lot from these men, which is why it’s important to make sure that every deserving men is recognized.

Interesting piece by Gen. Brady about the Congressional Medal of Honor Society’s convention in Charleston, S.C., but I mostly wanted to post this just because of the above quote from the General (who is himself a MoH recipient).

I’m humbled to have met Mr. McNerney several years ago in Houston at a Patriot Guard mission for a fallen Soldier. I’m even more humbled to know that men like Mr. McNerney ever lived:

On this Independence Day, I’ll be celebrating because of and for SSG Giunta — I’m thankful and deeply humbled that men like him exist and that they are willing to put their lives on the line for their fellow Soldiers and for our freedom.

Make sure you go read this entire story about a special swearing in ceremony that took place on the Army’s 235th Birthday earlier this week, and the special guest of honor who swore in several hundred new recruits at the foot of the Statue of Liberty

But Obama was too busy dropping dope rhymes with Kanye West (one of our country’s most brilliant and unapologetic racists) to make an appearance somewhere else where real men were gathered.

Ed Freeman was the very best that this country has to offer. I’m humbled to be counted in the same band of brothers as men such as Cpt. Freeman
