If this child was in a car, the law would have demanded she ride in the backseat of the vehicle while securely buckled into a federally-approved car seat. However, there are no laws in Texas that restrict the age of a passenger on the back of a motorcycle — other than having to wear a helmet.

I’ve noticed that a very large number of the motorcycle fatalities that I read about seem to occur in the early morning hours between 1:00 and 4:00 a.m. — which indicates that the rider is very likely on their way home from a bar.
Seriously, people. They make a lane just for people who drive like you do: it’s called the slow lane. Now get over into it.
So if driving a new Prius makes you feel environmentally green, go for it. But you’re wrong. You’ve just transferred you great fuel economy for other more environmentally destructive manufacturing processes.

It’s a 3-day rally down beneath the giant Live Oak trees on the banks of the Colorado River, about 50 miles south east of Austin. I’ll be down there all day today, and will probably stick around for the 6:00 pm biker parade through “downtown” Smithville.
Two days short of an entire year of parking my 12 mpg Land Rover in the driveway in favor of my 46 mpg Roadliner (or my 52 mpg VStar Classic). Oh well. At least I got to listen to the radio on the way to/from the office.

I’ve read Robert M. Pirsig’s “Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance” twice, and I really do get a sense of Zen from working on my own bikes.

With an 113 cubic inch air-cooled push rod V-twin engine that measures out to 1854 cc — there are only two other bikes in its class (cruisers) that are larger: the Kawasaki Vulcan (2000cc) and the Triumph Rocket (2300cc) — this is one heavyweight cruiser.

What a difference in performance and sound — much more throttle response, and you can really hear her roar now when I roll on that throttle. These little short, straight pipes are LOUD.
