This will be my 5 year to make the ride, and am looking forward to finally (and hopefully) having a tailwind instead of gale-force head winds.

This weekend is the 26th annual BP MS 150 charity bike ride from Houston to Austin. My lovely wife is driving me and my best friend to our hotel in Waller, TX, which is where we are starting our ride around 7:00 a.m. tomorrow morning (rain or shine…most likely rain) with about 13,000 other riders.

As you’ve read, the 2009 BP MS 150′s first day was canceled due to flooding and continued severe weather on Saturday.

I was out in the garage doing getting my bike ready to pack up into the car for the 4:00 a.m. ride into Houston when I heard that the first day of the MS 150 has been canceled due to extreme weather conditions forecast for Day 1.

But if you do have an extra $5 or $10 dollars, please consider visiting my MS 150 Donation page and supporting my ride.

Expecting this thing to sell out quickly again this year, I had set a reminder for myself that registration for the 2009 ride opened yesterday morning at 10:15 a.m.

Notice how all of these riders treat their $2000–$4000 bikes — just throw them down. You’re much too tired to try to find a place to stand up your bike. So you just lay it down where you can.

The ride starts this Saturday morning, and ends at the foot of the Capitol building in Austin on Sunday (with an overnight camping stop in La Grange) — I’m leaving Austin tomorrow around noon, so blogging will be non-happening from noon until Sunday night.

Since Ezra Klein won’t box me for charity, I’ll once again strap on my cycling shoes and ride for charity in the BP MS 150 Bike Tour.
