Despite the fact that he didn’t meet the residency requirements, Rahm Emanuel is the new mayor of Chicago. Shocking exactly nobody. And thus the most politically corrupt city in America (well, except for Washington D.C. obviously) remains so — the Chicago Way, indeed.
I predict right now that Rahm remains on the ballot and wins the election in a Sadaam Hussein-like landslide.
Apparently the story has crashed the servers at the Chicago Sun Times…but here’s a link from the Publius Forum not reporting that “an Illinois appellate Court has decided that Rahm Emanuel did not satisfy the residence requirement in order to qualify to run for Chicago mayor.”
Of course, the rest of the statement from Danny Davis would be, “Stay out of Chicago mayor race…or else!” I’d love to know what the “or else” might be…
I don’t know why they’re even going to bother with the expense and pony show of an election — this one is already in the bag for Emanuel.
Again…there is simply no way that this minor technicality of being legally ineligible to run for Mayor will keep Rahm (“I am Chicago, dammit!”) from becoming the next Mayor of Chicago.
Regardless of why he’s quitting though, one thing is for certain: the US will be better off without him having any type of control or influence over the rest of our lives. I wish for him nothing but failures, dissapointments, and hardships wherever he lands next.
