If I’d known about this earlier, I definitely would have attended, as I rode with the PGR to honor all three of these American heroes and each of them holds a very special place in my memories.

Today, my wife and I made the 52-mile ride out to the small town of Smithville to pay our respects and to remember the passing of this young American Soldier who died fighting for our freedoms.

One of the things I realized that afternoon is that my emotions are so much closer to the surface since I joined the PGR and started riding on these missions. When I saw the #1 Sister necklace — a gift from her Tina’s twin sister — hanging at the grave, I was brought to tears.

This young PFC (but already with a combat patch on his right shoulder) told me that he felt reassured seeing us standing our post outside the church and then again at the cemetery. He said that if his “number was called”, it made him feel better knowing that we’d be there for him and his family, too.

On Thursday, 09 Mar 06, I will be joining numerous other Patriot Guard Riders from all over Texas and neighboring states to ride in honor and rememberance of this fallen hero.
